Home Brew Coldish Air Intake Gen 1

Ok so i did a Home Brew Intake for my 3800 SC, was able to get all these parts from Oreilly Auto Parts and a Hardware Store.

4" ABS Piping
3.5" to 4" Couplar
1" 4" Specter Couplar
1" 4" Specter Air Filter.

This is Gen 1 Design, currently thinking of reworking and trying and inline 6" Specter right into the wheel well

if you ge the rubber 4" 90" elbow, you cut it in the middle about 30-45* and it clamps directly to the tb lip while connecting to the 4" pvc and then filter

Thanks for the Input i am possibly going to try to modify the intake and see if i can can get it to fit into my wheel well. Not sure as of yet though. I have been looking for a DIY to build a enclosed cold air box that i can completely close off the filter and run a intake pipe into the wheel well.

I prefer directly behind the head light instead of the fender well. Less chance at dirt flying up and making it to the filter and large puddles of water aren't your friend.

Either way it don't make much of the difference, temps will be the same once moving and airflow into the engine bay. Niether will make more power than the other or anything like that.

Fender well is only cooler during slow, stop and go traffic. I have one that is sheilded on the bottom to prevent mud and water splashing up to the filter, but it's mostly for show. Speaking of which I need to take some pics of how I had it before. Lol

Yes if you could post some pics, i have been pretty happy with my gen 1 that i built but i am thinking of directing it more towards the fender.

keep it simple silly. take all that plumbing sh!t off and clamp the air filter onto the throttle body and call it good. the IAT sensor doesn't need to be in the air flow to give accurate readings to the pcm. just let it dangle or something. I noticed you live in Ogden, there is a Utah 3800 club on facebook. if you want to join that group I can give you more info.

Info for that local group would be awesome, looks like you have a slightly different intake than I do what gen is that?

this is when I had an intercooler with a gen 3, north star throttle body and lq4 mass air flow sensor. the idea is the same with the L67 throttle body, and is how my air filter is on now. here is a video of it running, the idle lope is because there is an XP cam in there. I'll pm you my facebook page so you can send me a pm and I'll pass the word to the admin.

I used the stock airbox lid and slid it over the tubing behind my filter after coating it with high temp paint and then used exhaust wrap on the entire intake up to the filter, looks kinda strange but youd be surprised the difference it made
