• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

seriously, who voted PhD/MD? shouldnt you own a nicer car?

JD here, no GP. At the same time I don't measure my financial success by the vehicles I own.

I wouldn't trade my Grand Cherokee Overland for a BMW X5, period. (Well if it were a straight trade I would, sell it and then buy an Overland again)

I dont messure finance in what car you drive either but if i was making enough to be in a lexus or a cadi cts-v i wouldnt be in my crown vic or gp lol
Now i may have a gtp to play with just because ive always loved the car

if i was making 70k+ a year i sure as hell wouldnt be driving a crappy car. not that i am now, but even so.

now my question is why most mechanics i see drive sh!tbox cars Im not talking lube techs here im talking guys making 70-90k a year driving 82 datsun pickups and so on

because they work on cars all day at work, why would they want to do it at home? my brother is a mechanic and i dont think he will ever own a 'nice' car. they also like to jump at 'deals' to get a cheap car, fix it up, and drive it for next to nothing.

I drove free cars for years just cause i knew i could fix them
My favorite is a buddy of mine drive a 83 camaro daily has a old suburban and in his garage has a 67 camaro and a 70 olds 442 both orig both cherry and he hasnt even taking them to a car show or outin like 2 years

you guys are doing ok. i have 71 years of education and still learning everyday. as far as school i went as far 10th grade only. . my last job was working on the rex( rocky mountain express) pipeline. we finished up a month ago and sure was good pay while it lasted. 6 days a week and 11 hour days, my butt was dragging after we got all done. now i just drive a quad axle dump about 6 or 7 hours aday hauling locally. i;ll still have time to mod my gtp if it ever warms up. have the 3 dp on, high flow cat and glass pack in place of resonator, lots to do before the 3.4 pully, that will be last.

My dad is a mechanic and makes pretty good money but he drives a 92 Lesabre to work everyday. It is getting rusty but he only paid $1 for it. He can find deals on anything and will try to find something cheap and if it needs work, he can do it pretty easily.

I graduated HS in 08, spent a year at a liberal arts university and it wasn't for me. I am going to a tech school right now for marketing. I am going to try to find a job when I graduate and if I don't I will get my 4 year degree.

going to school in January for auto mechanics. making 8.35 a hour right now, soon to be 9.70 at valvoline but its a stable job and got my foot in the door so i guess i cant complain

i graduated high school, started working fulltime at my current job at the time. and now i'm fulltime at a bank and i started when i was 18. aint baaaaaad

if your happy at what u do, thats all that matters to me. i've had good paying jobs at various things but hated the hell outta them. so i went back to school so i could sit on my butt, gotta luv it.

i love my job, the ppl i work with are literally my family. i started when i was 18 and im only 20 now, they take care of me bc my family left me. id like to go back to school eventually, but i can move up in the bank so easily that its hard not to take advantage of that opportunity

Sounds like a good situation but make sure you don't get caught up in it blindly. (You sound like you do look at it all objectively)

What is considered good when you're 20 is not necessarily sufficient at 30 or beyond. I have some good friends that are learning that the hard way. They believe they had more fun than I did between 21-25, though I disagree, but the real truth is I am poised for more enjoyment today and beyond. They are not.

badbrad, your young yet. i'll be 72 this month and still working. I think all them wild women and cold bud lites kept me going so long lol. cant catch the women now, but can still get my bud's, happy new year to all forum members.

I have two jobs right now and work more than anybody my age that I know. So I understand work ethic, and hope that by 30 I'll either have moved way up in the bank or already have gone to school and be in a different career.
