I recently bought a 2006 grand prix base and the light is pretty bad. i honestly know nothing of cars but i am a fast learner so i was hoping on getting some brighter lights that aren't so yellowy or i guess you guys call them hid and install them myself. I was actually looking at those spyder headlights but after searching through this forum noticed that they are crap, i'll probably just buy some stock headlights at some point anyways. I looked through the doide hid kits and saw that they were only for the low beam? is the high beam not important?i looked through the ddm website as well and saw that their stuff was pretty cheap. anyways which ones should i get? it'd be awesome if someone who has tried both of them reply! or if you've even had one of them, please and thanks guys!
oh and i heard people talk about their headlights melting because of the heat? which light would you guys recommend for the stock headlight casing?
I got mine from VVME and love them! I wouldn't get the kit for highs unless you leave them on a lot. Turning the bulbs on and off like you do with flash to pass will kill bulbs or ballasts. You can get a 35w kit or a 55w kit. 35w is bright enough and personally, I think the 55w kit is overkill. Before you install them, you will want to disable your daytime running lights. The DRLs on our cars use some sort of crazy pulsed voltage that makes the headlights dimmer. This will kill your HID kit too. There are a few ways to do this. A few people have said to cover the daylight sensor on the dash with tape, but I wanted something that looks better, so i used some of the touch up paint and painted it black. This will trick the car into thinking that it's night all the time, so when your headlights come on, they do so at full power. Here's a pic of what the 35w 8000k kit that I used looks like:

I'm not sure if its illegal or not, but it's so commonplace that I feel like it doesn't even matter. I don't have any projectors in there. You can get the parts to do it and theres a great write-up here http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-retro-fit-04-08-headlights-59210.html
If you disable your DRLs the car will automatically turn the lights on all the time, but you can still turn them off either by turning the switch to parking lamps or just turning them off like normal. What I like to do is run with just the parking lamps and fogs on during the day.
My car is an 07, but its the GXP model, that's why the front fascia looks different.
I am by no means an expert on the topic, but you will need the 9006 kit for the low beams. If you are worried about legality issues, don't go with the 55w. 35w is plenty bright enough. I got the digital slim ballasts so that they wouldn't take up as much space in the engine compartment, mine is already cramped enough.
