Hey probably getting a Cam soon. Need help.

Hey i'll probably be buying a Cam sometime in the next few weeks. But i know very little about a Cam job, i'm having a good friend put it in for me and show me some pointers. I was on ZZP looking around and they have like 6 different types of Cams and springs. What Cam would i use and what's everything ill need along with it ? :th_thumbsup-wink:
 


I have the intense s1x w/ #105 springs. But while you are doing it.. might as well get a new timing chain, dampner, water pump, and misc gaskets.

I did my cam install with a pulley drop and a new trans... so my results were nuts.
 
LOL that's awesome. Will my tranny be ok with a new Cam along with my 3.4 MPS set up ? It's been good to me so far i've never had a problem. I just won't do a Cam if i'm going to have to change my tranny within 2 months of doing it. If i do drop in a Cam i won't be killing my car everyday, i'd just take it to the track maybe once every two weeks.
 
usually shortly after a cam comes a busted transmission since youre in the range of pulleys that make massive amounts of torque.
 
I did my XP install with headers, 3.2", and a custom tune...it went from chirping the tires at 20 to blowing them off at 35...it was fun.

What are you wanting out of the car...there are PLENTY of cams to choose from...you just gotta letus know...streetability, gains...budget...
 
Well to be completely honest i do want more torque but not insane amounts at this point where ill end up blowing my tranny. . And budget is a large concern. Is there a less expensive Cam out there that would give me noticable gains without needing custom heads? I was looking to drop around $350 total on everything that i'll need for the job ( Not sure if that's possible if not then ill resort to the next cheapest price ). Thanks guys.
 


didnt you just get your 3.4 setup on the car? how in the hell are you bored already?

$350 is not nearly enough to install a cam. that might be enough to buy JUST the cam.
 
Lol. Ya i just got my set up done last week. I'm still looking for a little more power, i'll probably give it a long break and start saving my money after a Cam, ported SC, and meth injection. I'm just getting addicted lol.
 
I may just toss the idea of a Cam out the window if a new tranny is going to have to be put in to safely run the Cam. Say i do decide not to get a Cam ( I havnt totally decided yet , i still might) if i have my SC ported and install meth injection would it be safe to drop to a 3.2 pulley or even lower, typically speaking ? Im just looking for the safest cheapest means to add power from where i'm at right now. Im keeping an open mind to pretty much any mod as long as i dont have to drop 1000 bucks in one sitting lol.

i think youre jumping in a little too fast man, relax, enjoy the setup that youve got now and then decide what you want to do.

but the more you mod the more you are going to need that tranny, so id say buy that first and then build the motor more.

think of it this way if you reach your destination 3.2 pulley ( by whatever means) would you rather have coughed up the $ earlier to get the trans or blow you current trans then pay to have the car towed and order the trans while your car sits in your drive way collecting dust. forcing you to miss work and need that money evan more
