I have a 04 grand prix GT and I want to get wide tires but is that even possible? If so what is the max width I can use?

Without knowing your time size, I can't tell you exactly.
But I will tell you what I do know. For 16's stock wheels, 245/50/16's can be done, anything else really wont work or there dont even make a size bigger
17's, no idea.
18's, the primany size is 245/45/18. That will fit nearly every rim you'd want to run, rim width and offset will be your other big factors.

Im running 245/45r18s 2.5 inch offset with stock struts and its about as wide of a tire you can get on the 04 gt.
