• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

hey everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself my name is Nick, and I just recently purchased a 97 GTP coupe all stock with about 108,000 miles. a little higher on the miles than i originally wanted but the price was right and the car was taken very good care of by the previous owners. The interior looks like its brand new. But anyways im new to the GTP world but not new to forced induction. My pride and joy is my 86 Buick Grand National, i guess i got a "thing" for Gm's force fed 3.8 engines hehe. I plan on doing the usual maintenance and cleanup items and ive been reading the thread on safely modding your 3800 powered car, lots of awesome info in there. gonna do the homemade FWI and then was thinking exhaust mods. not looking to go crazy but i do wanna hear that blower whine!!

Welcome

A FWI will make the S/C scream, sounds beautiful.
Grab yourself a downpipe and a PLog, and you should be set for intake/exhaust for the time being.

nice cant wait to put the FWI on the car. I found a whole header set for the GTP on ebay for like $190, whats the quality going to be like on those headers?? worth the money or better not to risk it?

Umm depends on the brand, I got SpeedDaddy headers, and I love them. As long as you either weld them (pref.) or get band clamps and RTV the joints, you'll be fine

yeah the speeddaddy ones look alright. how hard were they to install?? i have access to a 4 post lift anytime i want too so it shouldnt be that bad. how much hp can you expect with these and FWI?

Umm, that's a good question, I'm not entirely sure on the exact HP numbers, maybe someone can chime in for me. But you will be doing the 2 best things for the car, letting air get in MUCH easier, and letting it flow out MUCH easier. The intake will really wake the car up, and is by far the best first mod to do.

Header install wasn't too much fun, I dont have a lift, and I had to take the engine out due to a broken flexplate, so that was a *****. Fitment is really good with the headers, but I did have to reclamp 2 places due to leaks. With a lift, and some PB Blaster, it should be fairly easy. The only 2 problems I really had were: front O2 sensor hit the firewall, and the trans-dipstick was/is contacting the headers, even after I bent it.
I ended up using some exhaust wrap around the trans-tube to stop the rattling.

You'll love the change the headers and intake will do to the car.

well im sure it'll give a good seat of the pants feeling which is all i really need. plus that blower whine cant wait to hear that haha. right now im either looking at the speeddaddy headers, OBX, Or pacesetter. Pacesetters are the most expensive at $413, then obx at $299, and then speeddaddy at $188. not sure how much better quality the more expensive pacesetter are compared to the speeddaddy???

Pacesetter leak like a *****, just look through the forums, most everyone has to weld them. OBX are good headers, not much trouble with them, and speeddaddy's are good too, like I said, I have them, and love them.
