Hey im new to this forum, and just wanted to ask for some help/ideas/questions.I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.Ive had this car for over a year already and its my first. It has been clean on the outside especially since I wash and wax it every week or two. However I have spent thousands fixing it up and many trial and error situations. You name it and it has been repaired from tranny rebuild to heads to brake booster and other brake work, batteries, starter, air filter, tires, upper intake manifold, etc. In all ive spent maybe 4k and now it appears I need my CV boot replaced, front and rear rotors, wheel speed sensor(ABS and Low Trac Coes on sometimes)and now even my cat.The car currently has 120k miles and I dont want to get rid of it because it has so much potential, but all of these arising problems and money being put into it every time is annoying.I wanted to start modding a while ago but since one thing after the next and not much money to work with right now,its hard.Is this really my cat? When I start up the car it sounds as if it wants to mis but it just idle/skips til its warmed up.Then as Im driving and around 50mph or 3rd-4th gear,as I accelerate at least half throttle the car sputters and lags acceleration and its hard for me to go faster.Whats up with that?My engine light is on nd the code says catalytic efficiency below something like that. What are good cats?magnaflow? And what are some basic cheap mods I can do myself that will give me some noticable gains?sorry for the long post just want to hear from experts/experianced Grand Prix owners.:(

But I heard that the 3" downpipe for GT's cause a loss of top end.I know about the Ubend and resonator delete. Is it hard to do?what are typical prices?

lmfao, did you mean loss of low end?

And yes... you go from enough torque for a burn out to enough torque to set you back but not spin but then it'll pull on the top end.... with headers.

Just get headers. It makes the power band much more balanced.

Yea lol,I meant low end.So the 3" is fine?Im looking to make over 200whp for now and tack a second off my 1/4 mile with basic, cheap, easy mods.BTW my car is stock, bonestock and I managed to pull a 15.7 @89 at this track so thats good. How about air intake and other minor things? I heard about the HV3,what eactly does that do inside the upper intake?

then top swap.

that takes a second off your ET and puts you just over 200 WHP and is cheaper than any other route you have.

Throw in headers, maybe a ported blower, maybe a 3.6" pulley and a good custom tune and boom, much faster car.

hmm ok.thanks dude ill take that into consideration.I saw that zzp has this new SS bolt on top swp kit.looks much easier, especially since I have little skill under the hood.but im doing as much research and even spending time just looking under the hood.Appreciate the info all

SSM90 kit is stupidly overpriced and requires a lot of custom **** you have to buy from them.

top swap is basically a head gasket job.

welcome, GTs unite.
I have a 3" dp from HoganPerfomance, among other things, but you will deffinately notice the difference... if you go that route.

  1. yea Im strongly considering the top swap now,I want to do it myself but im sure ill need hella more tools, time, and looking under the hood.I dont want to blow the doors off supercars or spend 5-10k trying to make 11 sec passes in the 1/4 but just somethng decent as a daily driver but able to hang with mustangs and camaros. My ultimate goal is to at least run 13.6 and have 330-350hp. But as for now I will try the FWI,top swap and 3" downpipe with ubend delete.
