• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

helpful advise please?

first and fore most... i am a proud noob and i know next to nothing, so cut me some slack and save the smart coments for someone else. :th_winking:

i have a 99gtp and at some piont in time would like to drop a 3.5 or 3.4 pulley. i know the exhaust needs reworked to bigger piping, it needs a tune, intake, plugs, ect... but here my my questions
1) a fellow gtp ower confronted me about a dp he is selling for 40 bucks, only catch is that it is a 2.5in, not 3in. is that gonna be a prob?
2)the dp has the ubend delete and no cat, is it possible to keep the stock cat on the exhaust set up? or should it go catless? i would prefer to keep the cat if possible
3)i will be deleting the resonator and putting a glasspack in its place with 2.5in. pipe, bad idea?
4)so with what is listed above am i on a decent track for a pulley drop or am i completely off? i know i will be getting a 180* t-stat, tune, cooler plugs, and i already have an fwi.
5) also thought about porting the s/c and throttle body... when should, or could that be done

please give me helpful critism, im not looking for an overly fast car, just faster than stock. or if anyone has some suggestions please throw em out, at this moment in time i am very open minded. i have researched this a little bit here and there but i would like my questions answered too.:th_peaceout:

Ok a 2.5 down pipe is a waste go 3" or not at all
There are a lot of 3.4 threads on here and a ton of used parts on here clubgp and gpona
your better off just doing it the right way the first time around Look into headers Yes you can keep your cat

You really don't have to get a downpipe, the u-bend is the most restrictive part of the exhaust so if you get rid of just that you should be good to go for the mods you want

Ditch the 2.5" idea, there"s a reason everyone says 3" downpipe. Also consider this for the price of a good down pipe you are already halfway to buying headers. just my .02

and the idea has been ditched, thanks does anyone have this :ZZ Performance how does it effect your performance?

and from what i have been reading it seems like the front header is the most restrictive, is there any problems with just upgrading the front and leaving the back?

The u-bend IS the most restrictive, but that was still an extremely stupid statement. To drop to a 3.4 you will need at least a 3" downpipe, intake, tune, colder plugs, 180tstat. Just get the 3" catted dp from zzp and dont waste your money on the 304 stainless because the standard will still probably outlive the car. If you plan on ever modding past a 3.4 setup you might as well not waste the money on a downpipe and just get headers because beyond 3.4 they are a must. Oh, and these cars sound like complete **** with the resonator removed, just leave it. There's a thread in the general tech section called safely modding your 3800 powered car, you should check it out. The ceramic pipe is useless, and is only for use with their front powerlog anyways. If you realy want to open up the exhaust don't waste your time and money on downpipes/powerlogs/crossovers, Pontiac Performance Racing Products for International Sales from SSAutochrome Inc. these headers fit great on these cars and are pretty cheap. This would be ALL you need and the exhaust will be done no matter how far you mod.

Then all you need is headers/tune/intake of some sort/180* T-Stat/Autolite 104's...and if you want...a ported blower and TB. To be HONEST, if someone knows their sh1t you can probably get away with a 3.4" with just headers and a damn good tune.

downpipe and a 3.4 would work too. the tune would be the hard part.

This. Shouldn't need headers if you're not going past the standard 3.4 setup. There's a guy selling a 3" zzp stainless for 60 bucks in the for sale section which is a sick deal, you should check it out.

I'm just saying that since the price of a DP/PLOG NEW is almost as much as a set of headers nowadays...I'd get headers...for the little price difference...the performance gain and flow ability is well worth it.

thanks for the info guys! is there any hp gains from porting the blower? and throttle body? im thinking about having my blower ported, what is the best way to have it ported?

Send it to Brian (Reptile).

You'll benefit form lower outlet temps, more whine, and with hte TB ported...it'll have better flow/throttle response. Plus, with the better flow...it'll lower KR...since the temps are lower.

at the moment headers are out of my price range. i would rather just get a down pipe and and the other supporting mods if that would work.
