HELP

alright. you all are gonna have to talk me down. i'm thinkin about tradin the gtp for a mustang. i really like my gp but i'm looking to make a fairly quick (mid 12's) street car. i know you can build a gtp to run hard but the reliability goes down and, this is my second car/daily driver. my thoughts for building the gtp are:
cai (installed)
xp cam
headers (pacesetter,slp...)
full exaust and mufflers
p&p lim, blower and tb
3.2 pulley
65 shot of N20
and hopefully someone to tune it. thats my biggest hurddle. i have no clue on how to tune an efi car but, i can tune a carb with my eyes closed. the reason i'm thinking about going with a mustang is that you can spray a 200 shot on a factory motor (87-92) and it will hold. i even have a few buddies that are doin it.

i really love my gtp but i wanna go faster than i think is possible with this platform. i know with enough money i can go as fast as i want but, like alot of you guys i'm on a budget.

am im crazy???
sorry for the long post. i'm just thinkin out loud.

What kind of Mustang?

And you can spray 200 shot on a 3.8 and it'll hold, there are just much better and safer alternatives.

i was looking at either a fox body or go all out and get a 65-68 mustang.

a 200 shot? really? i figured it would self destruct in less than an 1/8 mile. the most i would put on it would be a 70 WET shot after the tb. i think it would handle it ok. oh yeah this is not my first time playing with spray. just the first time on a 6

3.8 is a full cast iron block (other than the pistons) it can hold 650+hp....so a 200 shot if tuned correctly(not running lean or getting knock) is very possible

Aluminum.....But they are plenty strong.....You could blow any motor with a 50 shot if it isn't done correctly......There are a lot better ways to go fast than NOx, But if that is your wish, a correctly tuned 200 shot is possible....It takes a lot to destroy a 3.8 :th_thumb-up:

if u get either mustang and mod it to 12 sec would that be your only car?

no. it would be a semi daily driver tho. on days its nice or not raining

i've almost talked myself out of doing it altho.....how streetable is a gtp with a cam, headders and pulley? and how long can i expect the trans to last

Well if you dont mind the absolute shi* handling and the gas of the mustang id say go for it. But if you pull up to a fuc*in A GTP with your 12 sec mustang and get smoked then wouldnt you feel stupid? :th_winking:

If your going to build a 12 sec grand prix just get all the right parts and dont cheap out on anything. If a shop is going to do it for you take it to the right place that specializes in w body specific cars. Your car wont last long if you bring it to some Mickey Mouse shop and Pluto does the build. Ive seen really fast grand prix's that are daily driven. You also have to remember that ANY really fast car, dont care what it is, will have problems with it. As far as Transmissions go just get a fully built trans. I read somewhere on the forums that are Transmissions cant handle anything over 300hp. If you plan on getting a cam and pulley your car would be extremly streetable, due to the fact thats not many mods at all...

well, i got to do a BUNCH of reading this week end do to a sick wife (gotta kiss a little ass every now and again) and i think i'm gonna keep it. prob start out with a few minor mods (i.e. exaust, intake, pully tune) and see how it goes from there.

Im a ford guy and have owned 2 mustangs out of my 3 cars....With the stock 302 that comes in the 87-93 they are stronger than the 94 and up because of the forged pistons...in 94 they stopped that...A 200 shot is possible but your asking for trouble down the road trust me....my brother has over 8 grand in his motor...it is a carbed 331 (302 block) now if were talking EFI then add at LEAST 2000 grand on top of that.....plus a tuning platform wich the only one available that is in-depth enough to possibly do what you need to do would be the AEM ...wich is 1500 by it's self. My brother runs 12'6's with his 90 hatch. And trust me if you dont have some sort of tuning device besides a hanheld you losing a lot of power...

I only know this becuase of watching how much things affect this car...like putting a 78mm tb leaned this car out a lot. I can only imagine what a cold air intake and 80mm tb would do on a 5.0.

Hope i further changed your mind. My car is a 12 second car and to be honest i like it more than being in a mustang i think just because of the fact that it is a sleeper i guess...i mean who would guess that any gtp would be faster than 14.8? lol

Let me give you a tip. Take it for what it's worth. Decide what you want out of your car and then decide on your mods. You'll waste a lot less money that way And also take into consideration that you'll probably want to go faster once you get to that point. I made a cupple of mistakes bcause i didnt think of that. One of them was the exhaust. I decided on a p-log and downpipe. And i alng with many other people are here for you when it comes to tuning. I've devoted a lot of my time explaining tune related things on here as wel as else where. but the'd do the same for me...and probably have in some sort of way.

ya. i love the fact that it's a sleeper. as a matter of fact, i suprised the hell out of a guy today in a new to him 06 535i. i won....barely.
i guess it boils down to me not being real familliar with tuning an efi car. for some reason it scares the s#!t out of me. like i said i've been doing some reading and i'm kinda getting the jist of it. that open tuner 3800 note pad gave me alot of good info. i've been thinking about getting a tuner to play with next. do you have any sugestions on what i should get? remember... I KNOW NUTHING:)

Well I have an HPT so thats what i recomend. I can help you with almost anything when it comes to hpt as well as a few other people on here that are more kowlegable than i am with hpt and tuning in general. Typically when people get a tuner now it is hpt im guessing because of the newer technology?...at least for me it was. Software updates new vehicles being added ect.

Your on the right track on getting a tuner as one of your first mods. Thats what i did and im glad i did it in that order. Im not going to lie. Tuning any car is not simple and it requires learining. I'm the type of person that learnes slowly but once im there im usually excell above everyone else. Ill post a cupple of screenshots off of my tuner to give you an idea of what is involved.

I'll say this-

It's not easy, But nothing with such awesome results as this is.

There are PLENTY of people that will help you through anything you will encounter that you have trouble with when dealing with tuning. Me.Others on here. and Everyone on hpt tuner forums.

Shoot i only have one saved on my computer. This is the MAF table. It will be one of the main one you mess with while modding. Go sign up on the forums on hpt and just look...look and learn...you can learn a whole lot by just browsing and getting use to things and some of the problems people have....Nothing will make any sense that you look at on hpt...this is normall and once you do start to undestand things you'll know your actually learning something.:th_thumb-up:

I'll tell you something about hpt. Most all info that you could possibly want to know is there. You just have to look for it.Therefore most of the people on there will just provide you with a link to more info that you dont understand lol....But anyway the info is there. so learn it!
