sooo i went WOT til i hit 110 mph, let off the gas check engine light started flashing... gave multiple codes for TPS, MAF and something else... anyway i got it back home slowly got to lookin at it and cylinder 6 spark plug gap had been closed.... what would cause this?

The flashing SES light means that there is multiple misfires. And that would be because of the smashed spark plug. But the spark plug probably got smashed because you shipped a piston. This means that you were probably running with too much knock, which caused the top lip of the #6 piston to chip off. This chip was then slammed against the spark plug and closed the gap. But your bigger problem is now you have a piston with a chip that is going to only get worse.

get a scope in that cylinder or have a shop do it if you dont have one. A lighted scope is the way to go and check out the cylinder walls and your piston, like zef said probably a chipped piston but if not, there is still something terribly wrong. If you cant get a scope pull that head before you keep driving it

wow that really sucks balls. what would cause enough KR to do that with me only having a CAI and 3 in DP? I run 93 octane at all times. And i havent noticed any change in performance since the plug got re gapped.

Start saving for a short block. Bent plug = chipped piston.

There is no point to scope it. The plug was bent from something flying around in there. Chipped piston or busted valve fell through...no matter what happened...it is internal and he is going to need a new bottom end.

Just because you don't have anything done to it doesn't mean it is knock free.

more like buy a new car, im done with GP's. This is more of a reason to get a 03 snake ;) this GTP has been a money trap and a severe headache.

I'm not sold on the doomsday theory yet.

Where's the picture of the plug. Did the tip bend or did it get hit by something.?

it was bent so bad it closed the gap maybe not all the way but damn near close, also was blackened.... i have no engine noises or ticks yet and this happened almost 2 weeks ago. car runs fine. dont have any pics.

Sounds to me like you chipped a piston. Drive it easy and you may not have any more problems besides maybe burning a little more oil. Beat on it again and you may have to deal with a new engine.

drive it easy... lol... no more whine? thats gonna be hard to do.. its still driving perfectly fine, no engine noises that werent there before.

How else could a plug have gotten BENT? Something hard had to have been flying around in there to bend the diode. You have a chipped piston or god knows what else...when I threw my first motor because of my PCM it looked like a typical 1:00 position chipped #3. After removing the oil pan...the skirt had grenaded and the piston rings were wrapped around the crank. Didn't do any damage to the block or crank because the second it started knocking I turned it off. Maybe quit beating on your car if something if wrong internally.

Jesus.

If he chipped a piston he would feel it, it would bellow smoke out the exhaust. There are other things that could have happened to bend that plug, foreign matter maybe.

Not true.

I had a chipped piston for a few weeks and it puffed a bit of smoke when it chipped. That was it. Turbo Kent and Trannyman also drove both their cars on chipped pistons and they never smoked.

I agree this is not true. I have chipped pistons before and they have never smoked.

And seriously, what else could have gotten passed the air filter or injectors and smashed a spark plug like that.

To the OP, if you want to keep beating on your car, that is fine by me. But just don't be surprised or mad when it grenades and you are stuck replacing the motor.

FWIW, if you decide that you want to fix it now, it is fairly easy to replace just the chipped piston, if you have any kind of mechanical experience.

im somewhat mechanically inclined to a certain level... but i dont think i could handle replacing a piston... i have a friend that owns a garage and will give me a break on the labor.
