Help with Rod Replacement... yes I searched.

I had a L67 rebuilt by a run-of-the-mill machine shop after spinning a bearing. It ran 30k miles after without issue before it was yanked out for a different build. I sold it about a year ago to a guy that dropped it in his Impala to daily drive. No issues again.

These motors can be rebuilt, and they are. The bottom ends can be pulled apart and re-assabled. People have done them in the past without issue, and you will continue to see more of that, as the prices of these motors continue to rise. IDK about you guys, but I can't find a L67 in the junkyard for less than $700, unless it has a ton of miles on it.

Lots of these have been built over the years without problems. Believe it or not, rebuilding a SBC correctly and within tolerances is not much different than rebuilding a series II or III 3800 correctly. It's just not seen much because most of the members have moved on. And, since a bone stock L67 will hold more power than 99.9999% of people on here will ever make, it was, and still might be cheaper just to pony up and get a junkyard unit.
 
Idk, we still got em here for round 150-300 for a 100k mile motor.
Never said they can't be rebuilt, they can. It still just a pushrod V6. I just takes way to much effort to make it worth it. Its smarter to just go to the JY and get one.

You guys pretty much said, if you attempt to rebuild a 3800, it won't last. Don't make me go back and quote all of it.

you can rebuild a 3800 but the cost to do it correctly outweighs a JY motor. At least around here it does.

An opinion which is based on no factual data about my situation... maybe you don't know that engines from car-part.com in.my area are between 700-1200. I'm not going to get one from a pick n pull because they don't know the condition of them and there is a chance its in the junk yard for a bad motor. Then what have I accomplished besides waste hours of my life for not? So I could spend 50 more dollars to buy a replacement rod, or spend 700-1200 more for a known good engine. That's not saving me money. That's just your perception based off of assumptions.
 
Let's just agree here, there is one fact that we know is true and you don't, and that's the whole reason this thread is going on and on... That slapping in a rod and bearing is not likely to last much longer than 500 miles. You say yeah right it will last a long time. We say no, not likely. You're a pretty stubborn person to not agree with like 10 people, many of which have been around these motors a lot longer than you. We are not experts at throwing rods in 3800s because we're smarter than that.

But we're on the same page now man.. Go for it.

I see no reason to leave just because you caught a case of butthurt. I.just wonder how the guy who is throwing a temper tantrum because I won't change what IM doing because he said so is then saying I am on a high horse.... sounds like you are the one that knows best according to you,sir, when you don't know anything about my level of experience, tools, past projects or access to machine tools.

Nor do I care if you think I will fit in with your crew of "you can't do that" vaginas that are scared to build a motor. Just because it didn't work for someone else doesn't mean it won't work.for me.

yeah the JY is expensive but everyone here goes through a local guy.. He has 3800s for 100-500 bucks..... lol Not disagreeing here man just saying. and it wont last if a rebuild isn't properly done

I'm doing a lot more than slapping a rod and bearing in it.... but again we have a reply to what I should do without knowing all the facts. I shouldn't need to explain my whole process to you in order to ask for a rod part number... nor do.i need your approval to proceed with my rebuild. Why am i the asshole for calling you out on sticking yiur nose into.my business wjere it doesnt belong? I just needed a part number. If you cared to kmow the facts, you could certainly ask, but to cast judgement about my actions without knowing the full set of facts makes you look like a retard.

I watch craigslist and the local forums to try and pick up running l67's for way cheaper than the junkyard has them. But, they are so much harder to find than they were 3-4 years ago. Eventually, we will have to build them if we want an L67.

Agreed, I have been checking CL weekly hoping for a wrecked car or spare engine to.come up. I know I'll get it cheap that way, but no luck for quite some time now.

With proper machining and machine shop work it can be done. Dude, you are the biggest ass I have ever met. We are all telling you its possible, if not done right it will go pop. Its smarter/ cheaper to just buy a JY motor.
