HELP - What are these? *PIC*

The serpentine belt frayed off the other day, and since then I have found at least 6 of these that have fallen out from the engine compartment of my '06 Grand Prix GXP. Does anyone know what they are and/or where they came from?

Additionally, I found a leak from the water pump. If they're from that, I'll be happy since I planned to replace it anyway.

Good call, J57ltr. After some more digging, I believe these are needle bearings from a rocker arm. Time to tear into the engine.

Needle bearings from the rocker arms are going to be smaller diameter and longer. Also they wouldn't fall out of the engine compartment unless you had the valve covers or pan off. Give us some scale to go by, but I am guessing they are at least 3/16" diameter and about 3/8" long that would be a bearing but I would say if they are 1/4" diameter start looking at your hubs, I don't know much about the 5.3 in these cars, but most tensioner and idler bearings are ball type, only a heavy duty bearing would be the roller type you have there.

lol if they came out of the rockers you got bigger issues. and you car didnt come with roller rockers, so thats out the window 100%

They look like deer slugs. You have large holes in your fender and hood? Leave farmer Smith's daughter alone.

Well, I do have problems, but that's mostly unrelated to this car. I will check out the hub assy and let you know. Also, I'll measure those slug shots and post the dimensions. The farmer's daughter may not be a looker, but she puts out and if this is the worst thing her dad can do, then it's totally worth it. :-)

You could just take a picture of them in your hand.

I've seen it all on these cars and so far.. I don't have an answer for you, which means that likely they didn't belong in the engine compartment.

How big are they? Kinda reminds me of locating dowels that some cars use on timing covers, etc. I can't recall if there are any on our water pumps or not.

My vote: Not related to your car. Bounced up off the road at some time/place and your car caught them. To me they look like rollers from a Ford type axle bearing. Often the outer race is cut off and you end up with a pile of these. So a truck hauling junk hit a bump and these scattered on the road and a few bounced and were caught by your car. Thats my guess.

I mean, if his serpentine belt frayed off and then saw roller bearings on the ground, the obvious assumption is the idler or tensioner pulley fell apart. The rest are guesses.
