Ok as some of you already know my tranny broke...and as some of you other guys know i will be putting in an xp cam...

I know some of the parts i need to take the tranny out and to change out the cam but just thought it would be a good idea to double check so i can start ordering parts and have the tools ready...In addition i will be changing worn but easily replaced parts on the engine such as the oil pan gasket for instance.

Let me know of anything or anything iyho that should be changed when having the engine pulled...thanks GPF!!!!!!

I'll start it off with what i know already....

Oil pan gasket
ac/fuel quick disconects

Valve cover gaskets, timing chain, maybe front and rear main seals. If you do a cam there is a host of gaskets you will need. Front cover gasket, water pump gasket, etc. There is a host of minor maintenance things you could do (which is what Ive been planning to do with the engine and tranny out. You might consider replacing your control arm bushing, lower engine and tranny mount. You could probably get a little insane, just depends on how far and complete you want to be.

could also replace the waterpump, since it will be coming off anyway. power steering pump, too if you wanted.

Thanks so far fellas...the plan is to do a full rebuild on the engine as soon as i can so i may decide to change the water pump and timing chain at a later time...what do you think? valve cover gaskets have both been replaced...good thinking though.

ok so far we have the following...

Oil pan gasket
ac/fuel quick disconects
front and rear main seals
Front cover gasket
water pump gasket

and as far as the front and rear main seals....i have only rebuily a sbf 302 so can someone quickly explain how to do this on a 3800? I just want to have a heads up when getting into all of this

I havent actually replaced them yet, but I have front and rear covers with new seals in them and it looks like a good seal puller would yank it out then just install the new ones. I havent seen any specific write ups on the process though.

You can just get away with changing the front main...the rear seal rarely rarely goes out....plus it's a pain to install correctly.
