HELP smoke coming from engine

I'd leave it there until you have money for coolant. Times are tough right now an no sense spending cash you ain't got. And no problem on the quick response. Recently lost my job and I don't have anything better to do.

I know how it may feel to loose a job, good luck with that bro i hope you find another soon too and yes it is very tough times.

I actually did have enough money and got a gallon of prestone coolant 50 50 and the clamp too. These are hose clamps and they are tough enough to last for a long time right? Ill be waiting until the car is cool then ill slide the clamp back and screw on the clamp in and i only need to put on 1 right and it will hold very well especially in these heat wave we are having over here? Ill also check the other things too to be sure there is no leaking and then ill pour in say about half the bottle of this coolant and then run it a bit and wait till i need more coolant in it and figure out weather the car needs more or there's a leak.

The clamp is fine as a permanent fix and only one is necessary for that end of the hose. As far as my job, it was kinda my fault and not all at the same time. They aren't fighting me for unemployment so I'll have SOME income...just about 50% of what I had.

Cool and i hope that is what the problem is we cant afford it to be anything else. O yea also how many coolant elbows are in the car just 2 isn't it?

Hey bro something is better than nothing especially if you did something wrong, best of luck bro.:th_thumbsup-wink:

There are only the two coolant elbows. I've seen new ones break prematurely due to improper installation (ask me how I know.)

The big problem with the unemployment is I was BARELY making ends meet at full pay...50% means 50% of my bills aren't getting paid.

ok ill find the other one and check it out, if its leaking it should be wet when i feel it right, and ya how do you know?

Hey at least you get half a few years back when my bro lost his job he did not get crap. Which meant crap of the bills get paid.

On the 99-03's there are two...on the 97-98 there are one. They may have changed it for the 04+ but if there are two they both reside close to each other and that bracket.

Got it bro thanks for all your and others guys help, im going to go put on the clamp and see how it all works out. Ill be keeping you guys updated when i finish, thanks again.

Thanks bro and i forgot to mention when i slide that pinch clamp off is it ok to leave it on in the middle of the hose?

Hey thanks for all the answers and it turns out it was the LIM Gasket, and we sent it to the shop to get it fixed. BTW how much should it cost to replace/ repair that?

There is a how to change coolant elbows thread.

Jason..technically 97/98 has two. One is cast into the tensioner though. The o-ring could go bad and allow it to leak.

Heh that's a 7+ hour job at most shops by the book. Prepared to be screwed.

I would be surprised if the book flat rate is 7 hours...but hey, wutcha gonna do? GM wants they're monies.

Most mechanics can do this in less than 2 hours and that's with standard tools.

Cost me only 365$, the guy did a great job and got the oil changed there since they had to drain it all out and a new coolant and the guys cleaned and greased the engine very nicely too. Thank for your guys help.
