Help replacing my Turn Signal Switch

Hey guys. I tried searching for this and couldn't find much. Anyone replace one of these before? Freak accident caused me to snap mine. Got one from the junk yard and its held on by two screws to the column. One is easy to get to up top but the other on the side on the is hard. I didnt have many tools at the junk yard so I just broke part of the steering wheel so I could get the torx head on there right. My question for that screw is, do I need a swivel torx or do I have to remove the steering wheel? Thanks

i think you can use needle nose pliers to get that one in the front loose, then take it out by hand.

its been a while since i changed mine, but im pretty sure i popped the wheel off too. just seemed to make life easier.

you'll want to figure out the clips for the column plastic so you dont break yours.

The screw doesnt have a head. So i wouldnt be able to grab it with needle nose. How do I take my steering wheel off? 02 gtp in case u couldnt tell by name lol

on the back of the steering wheel is 4 holes, 2 on each side, stick a small screw driver it one hole, then twist, theres a spring loaded lever holding the clip, twisting the screw driver unlocks it, you feel it move. pull firm but light and hold it up, then unlock the other one on the same side, if you let it go ( aka stop pulling up, its locks again) repeat for the next side. this pops the air bag off.

you'll want to un hook the battery, then un plug the air bag, and the wires for the steering wheel radio controls if you have them. then take the bolt off in the middle. then you need a small 2 gear puller, hook it on make the puller good and tight, then with a hammer tap the drive bolt of the puller a few times, the wheel should pop free.

i think the wheel needs to come off to remove the back plastic.

you try some vice grip locking needle nose pliers? i bet that could break it free. then take it out by fingers.

I changed the multifunction switch out about a month ago, I did it without taking the wheel off.Altho, that would definitely make it easyer. My issue was the black male torx that hold the top plastic on.I used the lower screws that are female to fit over the male top torx,I just used needle nose visegrips on the threads.Luckily,I didn't damage them.

I did this a while ago but I remember one of the torx was a pain. If you have a swivel torx that would probably work great but I recall using a torx bit and a miniature metric wrench to turn the torx bit at that weird angle. I also had to widen the tilt lever slot in the steering column cover to get things back together. Patience was key for the torx bolts. Good luck!

I just changed mine last month I had a set of torx bits its a T-25 and this is how you get it out without removing the steering wheel :

I got mine from Northern Tool but its the same concept

Also I had more success getting the plastic shrouds back on by removing the telescoping lever

(this was also on an 07 gp) not sure what year you have
