• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Help please

I have a 1999 3.8 GTP and when I accelerate the car seems to sputter and shakes badly sometimes. Almost feels like the trany is slipping, but shifts fine and deccerlerates fine. This problem only occurs when I try to maintain my constant speed, and when I am going up hills. I have changed the spark plugs and wires, and fuel filter. Need help I am lost. No check engine light either. :(

Check all vacuum lines, sounds like a typical leak. Also make sure they are all ran correct. Check all rubber spots for cracks.

thanks for the quick reply. I noticed today when i was driving home that my low coolant light keeps flashing but I have fluid in there could the coolant temp. sesnor be affecting this issue.

No that usually doesn't effect engine performance like your experiencing.

That's what the fourms are here for.

Does that light come on all the time or just on initial start up?

Well it comes on all the time after a while of running. I was told that the cts could be affecting it because that sensor regulates the fuel and air ratio.

As in to the top of the return tank? Shouldn't have the coolant completely toped off.

How about this. To your original post. Id check all vacuum lines and make sure everything is connected correctly. Then go from there.

Your engine coolant level low light maybe a bad sensor?

My bad getting confused sometimes typing between two people having problems.

Could be quite a few things. Let's clear some of your questions up though. A coolant light for low level is just a nusance light on the dash that's driven by the sensor in the passenger side of the radiator. Frequently these will mess up. Easiest fix is unplug it. It doesn't run through the pcm and doesn't effect performance. ECT is the engine coolant temp (located below the top rad hose on teh lower intake manifold) this would effect performance, but if your dash gauge is reading good temps..than no worries.

Could be a dirty maf, bad coil, plugged cat etc etc. Any work recently done to the car?

well my dash gauge reads good temp. I dont think it could be a plugged cat because I just had it changed a little while ago like 6 months ago. The only work I did to it was put rims on the car and that was it, and then it started acting all funny. I am going to clean that maf today and see what happens. thanks for the info.
