Hey guys I just sold my 94 cutlass in an attempt to help fund buying a GP. I found a 99 that is having issues that I'm pretty sure are related to the security system the car will start and run for about ten mins and then shuts off and after that it doesn't start for a short period of time. The guy only wants 800 for the car but it's about 2 hrs away from me I was wondering if there is some way to bypass the system so that I could atleast get the car home to really fix it. $800 for this car is a steal of a deal and I'd really like to find a way to atleast get it home before someone beats me to it. Thanks guys

Exactly what fuse should I pull I also did a bit of research and found that it coul be a MAF sensor or a resistor to the fuel pump that's under the battery and ideas how to weed out some of these options

does the key have a vat chip in it? if not thats why.

if you can get the vin # you should be able to find out the ohms of the key for the car and even get a new key from them.

In 99 the VATS system worked like this.

Key on, fuel pump primes and the injectors flow a little fuel into the cylinders
Crank, engine starts and burns the prime fuel, but fuel pump and injectors are not turned back on. Then the car stalls.

A stall after about 10 minutes that won't restart until the engine begins to cool is likely a crank position sensor, ICM or MAF

Thanks for all the replies guys it need up being a MAF sensor but the car was junk so I left it. On the up side I'm going to check another one out Monday morning

Well where to beginside skirts were falling off of it, both fenders needed to be replaced, hood and bumper need to be painted, front bumper was held on with zip ties, door pins were bad, and I would have delt with all of that but after finally getting the car to run it had what I think was a cracked pressure plate
