The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
that I believe is the next step we are going to pursue, the ICM is the block that the coils sit on right? sorry if it is a dumb question, but I am not the car guru, my stepdad is the one who has been working on it
Being that you don't have fire..there's a few things that you should check.
1. Do you have fuel pressure at the rail? Power to fuel pump
2. With a few key on/key off's do you have wet plugs (you should) Fuel injector fuse
3. Do you have spark? PCM connectors, ICM connectors, Connector from main harness to ICM harness, Crank sensor plugged in?, cam sensor plugged in?
4. ICM ground wire should be connected on a stud by the coil pack bracket above teh water pump.
it really would help if we knew what was missing.
Spark or Fuel
I will try to get to the bottom of it for ya bill. As of right now, the fuel pump kicks on when i turn the key to on, my stepdad says that it is not getting spark at all and the analyzer said its not getting a cam signal
Cam is kinda overrated. Per the FSM if the cam sensor is unplugged (and I've done this because I'm retarded) you have a 1 in 6 chance of it starting. In my expereince it was more like a 95% chance of it starting.
If you have no spark, but your plugs should be soaked by now with all the trying he's done.
hmmm...not sure then. I am going to try to pick up an ICM and hope that solves it. This kinda aggravates me because this was supposed to be done before I moved to Utah, but alas it was not and now I am back I want my car running lol. Wish I was more of a mechanic
ok, so lets say my ecm is from my 2000 motor, but the motor that I put in there is a 97-98...is that going to affect the ecm and whether it sends the signal for spark? I'm kinda getting at my witts end here with this car.
It looks like the part number for the ICM is the same for 97 to at least 2002. Some of the auto stores like Advance and Autozone can test the ICM. Just take it down and they'll put it on the machine. It's free.
ok thanks I will have to get it checked at Autozone...I am almost done with the car period because it seems as though it should be so simple, and I've put a bunch of money into the car and it's still not going
just not wanting to put much more money in it lol...i still need to fix my windows, get it painted, plus whatever parts it still needs to get running lol. If i were to pick an ecm up as long as it is from a 97-02 I won't have to have it flashed?
The ICM is hard coded and the same unit from 97 to at least 2002. It's plug and play.
One other thing: Someone may have already suggested this but make sure the large connector on the front of the ICM is secure, seated and the 7mm bolt is cinched but not overtightened.
That is why I mention the wiring issue. If he swapped the possibly 97 harness on it and is using a 98+ pcm, it's not going to work. The pinouts that are assigned by the software are out of place from pcm to wiring.
If he's using 98-02 harness and pcm he should be getting fire.
In the big scheme of things..a motor is a motor. It's the wiring and pcm that make it work or not.
I don't believe he has a 97 or 98 harness or PCM anywhere near the car. Everything under the hood is 2000, except the motor. I'm sure he'll let us know for sure though.
