Help me understand this please

Ok, so im trying to piece this turbo kit together and I'm a little confused. I bought the z7
downpipe last year before i began the real research of this turbo thing. Now due to budgetary
constraints i'm looking into the z3 crossover(unless someone can make/sell one cheaper).
Reading the description on zzp's site says that it does not have a wastegate perch and will
need to buy one additional. I thought that the z7 downpipe has a wastegate perch already
made into it? IIRC.

Now will the z7 dp and the z3 crossover not work well together? Im trying to keep this around
$1500 total cost and im already at $430 without the crossover or turbo. I understand this type
of thing can get pricey, but i also dont want to drop money into things i will have no use for.
Thoughts/solutions/suggestions please.

The crossover pipe has a perch that the wastegate bolts to and the wastegate bolts to the Z7 downpipe. As your turbo builds boost to the desired wastegate pressure the wastgate will open and divert additional exhaust gasses directly through the downpipe rather than going through the turbo. The Z3 crossover does not have the perch for the wastegate.

zzp sells the waste gate perch plate that bolts to back of stock manifold outlet

Ok. Thats what i figured, but i wouldnt need it because the z7 has a built on perch correct.just tryina make sure i got this correct

If you want to utilize the perch on you DP you would need put a perch on the z3 crossover so your WG can be connected to the z7 perch...z3 to my knowledge is designed to dump to atmosphere unless you want to run some custom pipe back over to the DP

Yes, the perch on the z7 downpipe is the "outlet" of the wastegate. the perch on the z7 crossover is the "inlet" of the gate, that is the part that diverts the extra exhaust gasses to keep your boost where you want it. the z3 kit uses the plate on the back of the rear manifold for the inlet, and a dump tube open to the ground for the outlet side. if you use the z3 crossover with the perch for your gate, you would need to block off the mount in your z7 dp. HTH.

ok, i think i got it now. Guy at my friend's shop said he could fab me up a crossover so maybe this wont be an issue, but just in case he
bluff me out i got a backup plan. So, if i get the z3 crossover also get the perch. Block off WG on z7 dp and im all set?

You will need a dump tube to bolt to the outlet side of the WG also so it isn't blowing exhaust gasses right at your firewall. If you know a decent welder probably almost easier to have them add a piece to the z3 crossover and then you can keep the z7 the way it was designed. But yes, you are basically right, you CAN just get the z3 crossover, the perch and a dump tube and block off the z7 and it would work.
