help me to understand

vailskier3

just call me john-o
okay, so forgive me for being ignorant, but i would just like to understand this whole concept on pcm's. i have a few ?'s that i would like answered that i can't seem to find threads on...

#1 - is it worth getting a tuned pcm on a N/A car?
#2 - if it is, should i get one with my only mod being a custom FWI?
#3 - can they be retuned as you upgrade/add mods? (i have heard that some cannot be retuned)

thanks for any help with this. pardon my noob-ness, i just really want to understand this stuff before i get neck deep in it...

ahh i dont remember his screen name. 99prix??? he has a gt with an overkill pcm. said it woke his car up, better shifting and what not.

most pcms are not locked, if they are, like overkill, you can send it back to him for a retune.

yes
yes
yes

it will help with a bunch of problems the n/a cars have and make it more fun to drive.

just remembered another ?, do i have to get one year specific to my car, because overkill only goes up to an 05 GT, and i don't have a GT, does that matter?

they droped the name and badges after 05+ they dont have tunning software for the 06+ so he will have to send you one from an 05, they all will. sometimes the gas reads the oposite way. he might have it worked out now

I doubt there's anything he can do. I believe that at some point the internals of the fuel level sender were changed. The readings off the potentiometer were reversed, for whatever reason. I do believe that if someone who's fuel gauge is reading backwards would swap to a 04-05 GP fuel level sensor it would correct itself.

Edit: After checking Rock Auto, the part number for the fuel level sensor in GPs changed from 06 to 07.

i'm confused, so if i get one from will (or anyone for that matter), my gas gauge is going to be backwards? thanks for responding though, i emailed will about this 3 or 4 days ago and haven't gotten a response yet...

sorry to jump the thread, but can someone answer my question? i bought intense pcm from clubgp, he said it will work for 00-03 gtp. i got the pcm for a co worker with 2000 gtp. when the pcm arrive it was for 2002 gtp, i email intense and explain about the pcm and they said it will work, but some of the features that the previous have in the 2002 might not work on the 2000. the pcm is a basic standard btw. since this is not my car i don't want to mess with it. anybody know if the pcm will work fine?

how does one go about finding someone with a tuner...lol?

well you can try the south east division on the forum to try and find some locals. if not maybe ask tdcracing. he lives in georgia and if your willing to make the ride and pay up for the tune, he might work something out for ya. but idk. you would have to ask.

but a custom tune would be way better then a canned tune. you would also have to get an 05 pcm. i forgot about that. no software for 06+
