Help guys...

I am going to look at a '00 GTP. It's a 2 door with 165,000 miles. Everything is still stock. The guy is asking $2,500. Does this sound reasonable? Maybe he is too high in price or maybe something I should watch out for or something to be checked?

Thanks in advance!

Tonka

Around here that sounds good. Check inside the oil cap to make sure theres no coolant in the oil. Drive it a little hard to make sure the tranny is still good.

take the car with the owner to a garage, and ask them to inspect the this car as im buying it. it may be the best money you ever spent.

they will look over the front end, check for leaks, exhaust, all the problem areas.

Thanks guys... This will be my daily driver for a little while. Wish it was 4 door though. Kelly Blue said its worth about $2,100. Maybe I can "wheel and deal" a bit! LOL

i use every last thing wrong with it against the price of the car, haggle, walk if its not worth it, dont over pay if it needs work done.

Oh trust me I know! LOL! I kick myself in the ass when I think about a truck that got away from me a few years back. I would not come up just $75 so, I walked and someone bought the truck the next day and I was out! LOL Oh well, guess it wasn't for me then...

How about this one?

I like the 4 seater better. I have 2 kids...

heres my thought. car has a lot of miles. idc what car it is, when it has that much something is going to fail at any givin mile. so, if you have 1500 to throw at a transmission just in case something happens, then you offer em what you want. for the first car thats worth 2100. he boosted the price because thats what you should do. everyone does that because everyone offers lower than the ticket price. he did this so that when you offer what its worth, hes actually getting what he wants. so you need to offer him lower than what its worth cuz chances are its not worth what its supposed to be. so you offer him 1800 for that car and if he doesnt take it you walk. money talks and hes either gonna take it or hes gonna sit on it hoping for 300 dollars more. which is stupid.

second car same scenario different price and car lol

I wouldn't offer him much more then maybe 600. I bought a 97 gtp less then a month ago with 280km for $350 and I put about 1500 in new parts.

i got my regal for 1/2 off what they wanted, at a used car lot to boot. after we hit the shop for a inspection, it was gloves off and i had the reach and kept jabbing the guy hard.

they wanted 1800 for it, i paid 800 in the end, 1st offer was 500.

needed a whole front end, and tires. it had oil leaks and a SC coupler that the shop said the sc was shot, ha ha. the a/c was blowing hot on one side cold on the other, the instrument cluster was dead. and needed to be rebuilt. i also had no idea the real mileage, also every warning light was lit up. the last owner titled it and said 160,000, when the cluster was fixed it read 212,000, how ya like that crap?.

so far i have done all this. in no particular order.

tune up.
had instrument cluster rebuilt.
did a rack
tie rods
a inner tie rod
strut mounts
lca's
new sway bar
power steering pump
trans swap
new brakes f body caliper upgrade, slotted rotors all around, and ss brake lines all around. needed new brakes any way. bought used and it cost about the same as doing all new duralast or pro stop. a bit more not much.
water pump
new battery
sc coupler
new steering wheel
and air bag
clock spring
new front tires
good used back tires
used sts wheels, my stock wheels were leaky
heater hose
upper rad hose
valve cover gaskets
used maf
ait sensor
new pig tails for the 2 of them.
2 new power sockets for the console
a new to me console with good cup holder and not beat up.
newer used front and back seats.
replaced resonator and muffler.
not 1 but 3 oil pressure sensor's it now has a brass plug in the hole/done
center tail light section and its wiring.
used steering shaft
picked up a spoiler for it too.
also did my own version of fix the water on the pass side floor board. been leak free for over a year.
both blend door actuators have been unhooked and still need to be replaced.
refinished the window trim
cleaned abs harness plugs, got rid of abs trac off lights
air bag is the only idiot light left on on the dash

i know i forgot something:th_nervous: <<<<iv'e added 3 or 4 things since it typed this...

id say ive invested right up to the blue book value of this car at this point.

all of this was done by me except the trans swap was a billboost special and the strut mounts, i took the struts off the car and dropped them at a front end shop to swap them out, a safe 20 bucks spent for that service.

tomorrow i get to fix the alt bracket elbow that's leaking now, and clean and try to seal my oil pan with rtv to stop the damn oil leak for good. god wiling.

after that i get to swap the leaking master cylinder. and i have another one on order so to say and waiting for it to get here. thanks again bill.

so if it needs work and you think you can get a honeydo list like this done, then get a cheap beater.

i also buffed the crap out of it. I, yes I tinted the windows, and tinted the tails. if i went back to the dealer with it now im sure he would not know the car at all.

pics of said car in sig ,,,,,shame less plugola lol i should copy this into my ride as well lol

np. where the hell is limestone?

LOL! Have you heard of Kankakee? Well, I talked to the owner earlier and stopped and looked at it today... Didn't drive it yet. I will go back tomorrow with the cash and drive it. He put 4 new tires on it about 8,000 miles ago. Replaced the supercharger and put a new belt on it. He claims he has the reciepts... I think I'm only going to take $1,700 with me and leave the rest in my safe at home! LOL! Leather interior is cracked but, that is typical for a 13 year old vehicle. Has Bose stereo, sunroof, HUD, power driver seat and it's a 2 door like I said earlier. Maroon in color (not that it matters)....

Be prepared to do the LIM gaskets pronto, if they aren't the new aluminum ones change them before it cost you lots o money!

Price sounds right on par and yes you could easily offer less. The worst they will say is no.. If you are just looking for a dd then I'd go for it.

Just the intake? Anything else?

Plus a few mods when the time is right

Ok yeah so ur way south of me
Are you north of the city?

Probably valve cover gaskets. They like to leak oil everywhere. The list goes on of things you should replace... motor mounts, suspension components, etc. However, leaking intake gaskets can lead to ruining engine bearings. That's why it was recommended.

Well, just left the drive and got a call from this guy... He said it loses reverse after the fluid warms up but works just fine when its cold... Something about a solenoid. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
