HELP-car wont start/crank

Got my car back and it ran fine. Took it out for a test drive and to add miles on the trannyman tranny to break it in. I stopped at a few places to let the pcm cycle through the startups. I was on the last stop before heading home at a gas station 2 miles from where I live and when I tried to start the car up(went inside the store to get a drink) it didn’t start!? Everything else was on, just the starter didn’t engage when I turned it to “RUN” to crnak the motor over. The ignition control module is new that I bought from ed morad. Do you think the mechanics at the tranny shop accidentally touched or loosened the wires off the starter? I crawled underneath the car and took an open-end wrench and tried to hit the starter a few times(doesn’t hitting it start the car up or something??) as well as wiggled the thick wires off the contacts of the starter. Got in and the car started up.

This morning I wanted take the gtp to work to add more miles but yet again, the starter or car did not crank. I also wiggled the contacts off the battery incase they were loose, but I’ll have to double-check those as well. any suggestions? The LS1M shows ~11.8-12.10volts before I turn the key to “RUN” and ~11.4volts right when I turn it to “RUN”. The start is the OEM 156K miles.

I would say that either your starter or the cables are the problem. You said it started after you tapped on the starter and wiggled the wires. It very well could be the starter; brushes and the actuator can go bad and/or get bad spots on them. Which could explain why after tapping the starter it started.

Don't worry about your ignition control module, but do look into your cables and get your battery tested (11.8-12.10v is a tad low but enough to start your car). Make sure to look for corrosion and clean/repair as necessary.

Let us know what it was. :th_thumbsup-wink:

yea i think i found out the problem. i just tightened down both pos. and neg. terminals and the car starts everytime now. thanks guys. i'll post my tranny in the thread i made under the tranny section of the 4T65E "i got my trany in the mail" soon as well as some questions and such.
