Heating/Temperature issues?

Hey guys its winter in good old canada here and today i just got hit with a -4x below windchill and today I have just come to conclusion that my heating is totally boned....Today I warmed my car up before I left drove probably for a good 45mins and I had no hot heat coming (heated seats worked) and my temp gauge was a smidge above 70 degrees(the lowest # possible) I am going to get my thermostat changed monday and my antifreeze was brought up and dealt with a while ago when I got my new brakes done and also a water pump? Anyone had other issues or got idea!? I am worried and don't want to dump more money into this grand prix...I have put in too much as it is! (Other days when it was like -15 or -20 ish I did get hot air but since i got a big cold day today no heat)

is your temp gauge getting up to normal operating temps?

if so id think your heater core has air in it. once the car is warmed up, touch the 2 hoses that lead from the back of the alt to the fire wall, they should both be hot, if one is hot and one is cold, or both cold you need to flush the core.

take both hoses off the alt bracket, then put a garden hose a hose, run water through it till it flows freely, then do the same to the other hose. put them back on the engine and you should have heat now.

Gauge doesn't even move an inch like barely unless I stop but let alone it didnt move at all! When i was driving today but like when i look at the back (u know how it gets cold and all the exhaust smoke comes out cuz its cold) there was like nothing coming out in idle like doesnt that mean the car has warmed up? Like I felt my umm the hose that goes into the thermostat and it felt really warm! I am not an expert on cars but I will mention this on monday to the guys just to make sure there is a check on it. It is way way to cold to work on my car without a heated garage of my own

sounds like you need to change the coolant temp sensor. was it working fine in the summer? Also scotty told you to feel the heater hoses not the upper or lower radiator hose. the heater hose is near the firewall.

sounds like the t stat is stuck open, or the temps sensor is bad and you have air in the core. if the hoses are good and hot the temp sensor is bad.

id brave out a t stat, its 2 bolts and your done.

or theres the good old cardboard over the rad trick. if you do that and the temps rise you got a stuck open t stat for sure.
