heater core

this thing so far is a SOB! do u know if the whole dash has to come out?i have the whole underside of dash torn down and i still dont even see the damn thing.

yea that was teh first thing i pulled.. behind that is a buncha duct work for vents.. im guessing heater core is behind all the duct work?

found it.. for what it worth if someone else needs to replace theirs.. take the whole consol out.. i removed ash tray/brackets for a lil more room..

take all the gold screws out of duct box.. remove the lower part of duct box, the part that transfers heat to the rear of car.. kind of a pain in the ass.. then pry the upper part of duct box off with a screw driver.. there lies the heater core.. pop heater hoses loose under the hood.. voila.. ur heater core is removed. puttin it back together looks to be fun ;)

gtp- any chance you could take some pics so I can know what the light at the end of the tunnel looks like. I have need to change mine for quite a while I have almost no heat in the car right now. thanks

Still sounds easier than foxbodys, anyone that's owned one knows what I'm talking about. I've never owned one that didn't need replacing. Curious about pics as well.

now i cant find my upload cord... if u wanna pm me ur cell number.. ill send u some pics.. or wait til i find my cord.

the last 3 pics are just different angles of what it looks like behind where teh console sits. u can see the 2 holes where the core slides into fire wall.

With a new heater core and new heater hoses, (mine was clogged beyond belief) I needed to flush the rest of the cooling system. However, I didn't want to pollute my new parts with crap that will break loose from the flush. Solution? I looped the old upper heater hose (no splicing or cutting required) to bypass the heater core while I performed the flush, flush and rinse.

Just my .02 hopefully it helps someone else.

despite my efforts, the new heater core seems to be clogged again! the lower heater hose is hot while the upper hose isn't. this car has never had it's coolant flushed so it may take awhile to get all the junk out...

any other ideas?

after work i'm going to do the garden hose flush to see if i can unclog it.
