Heater Blower Problem

I have a 2002 Grand Prix GT, and just within the past month the blower has stopped working. Last week it started to work again at what seemed to be half speed. I am thinking it was the Blower motor resistor and noticed it had been replaced before. Here are a couple pictures:

Hopefully these are clear enough. It doesn't look like it is burnt at all but the rust and cracks are what worry me. I'm just trying to decide whether I want to buy a new one or bring it in to have someone look at it.

Thanks,
Duncan

That does look like a replacement. The cracks are just evidence of heat which may or may not have caused it to go bad. That bullet looking thing at the top of the resistor is a fuse I believe and if you have a multimeter you can test whether or not it is good.

Did it stop working on all speeds or just certain ones?

Scratch that on the fuse testing. I think that may be a thermally resettable fuse in which case it may be hard to tell if it has gone bad or not with a multimeter.

The rust on the resistor might be causing bad connections to where some days it will work and others it will not.

Thanks for the answers, I went down to an auto parts store this morning and also got someones opinion there. I did replace it and it is working like a charm again. I think the rust was causing a problem somewhere but I will probably never know because I won't tear it apart.
