Heat shield with Plog?

I didn't put the factory heat shield back on when I put my Plog on. It's the stainless steel one. Should I leave it off?

Zooomer says not to wrap the Plog. I've seen where wrapped Plogs crack over time.

Since the heat shield does a similar job as header wrap, I'd leave it off. Honestly, I would've gotten it coated in the first place. :th_winking:

Eh, I'm not gonna race it, and I got a stainless steel one used for the price of a non coated non steel one. Plus, with my commute changing to 15 miles one way from 50 miles one way in the next month or so, the car won't get that hot in the short drive I make anyway.

Nope, don't put it on. The stainless plogs look good, don't ruin it with the ugly heat shield. I believe Zoomer said the thicker gauge stainless plogs hold in heat about as well as the ceramic coated ones anyway so I wouldn't worry about trying to retain the heat. Leave it be. :D

Ok. I didn't THINK I needed it, but just wanted to check before I take it to the dump. I have no intention of putting the old parts back on, so it's not worth saving, and I don't really have the space.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what are the Plog and U-bend? I'm fairly new to fwd mods.

Plog is ZZP's Powerlog which is a replacement for the front exhaust manifold. U-bend is referring to removing the U-bend at the rear O2 sensor in the exhaust and replacing with straight pipe.

Is the u-bend pictured anywhere? Do you just replace it with straight pipe? Why is it there to begin with?:th_scratchhead:

i heard something about its there so it can make room for the o2 sensor or something along those lines, but wait till someone else answers that question for you who knows what they're talkin about.i also wanna know does the straight pipe effect the positioning of the o2 sensor?

ZZP and a few other shops sell the "U-Bend" delete piece for about $45. If you can do welding yourself, that's the route I'd go. If not, you might want to just invest in a high flo downpipe with bolt on cat without the u-bend. ZZP has one for $170, plus $50 credit if you send back your cat. That's what I went with on my Grand Prix. This way I can still change my cat back if I have/need to.

Thanks, I'll get this thing on a rack and check all this stuff out for myself soon. I love the car, not real quick, not the most luxurious but it handles nicely and I'm getting 23.5-25 mpg driving to my shop, mostly in town and it just drives sweet!
