headlights not turning on

what could be the problem with the headlights not turning on? my father's 02 gtp headlights are not turning on. he have HID and both are not turning on. they were working fine 6 months ago. i check the bulbs and they look ok. the fuse in the fuse box on the engine bay #60A is fine. i also check the bigger fuse in the glove box #20A, the only thing i noticed was it had a brownish color on the outside while the other 2 bigger fuse look silver color on the outside.

Do you have a digital multi-meter or a test light? Start by checking the voltage input to the ballasts. Should be a 2-wire single connector.

Did they both fail at the same time?
Do you have a relay wiring harness?
What HID kit was installed?

Replace the fuse you said look brownish. Its been my experience that fuses blow right near the edge and its hard to tell with your eyes that its blown. I had a set of HID's where both bulbs plugged into one ballast box, and that box overheated and failed causing both lights to go out. Just an idea...

i don't have any meter tester. yes both bulbs are out at same time. i have 3bspecialties harness. the hid kit i have are the group buy from ebay. i think "kix" or something like that is his name.

thanks nick, i'm going to try to replace the fuse and see if that work

found out the hid ballast crap out. i put the stock light bulbs on and the headlights turn right on.

Lol, all these posts are from like 8 years ago. Still can't believe I still have my GTP ;D I came across this post when experiencing similar problems. The above poster's suggestion WAS correct. I also have HIDs. & they would intermittently come when while testing them in my garage & looking at the wall to see the reflection of whether or not they would come on. So, I removed the headlight housings & tried a few old school 9007 bulbs that I have in storage just in case. Sure enough, they lit right up.

Next, I wanted to inspect the HID ballast, relay, & bulb connections. All seemed visibly okay. One of the two connections to the ballast looked like it had some corrosion on the pins. I took a small file & cleaned that sh*t off & inspected everything else. I also cleaned the two ground connections (I just use the center-most bolt of two 10mm headlight bolts on each headlight to ground them - that's a pretty good place to ground them as long as you sand a small shiny spot of the chassis under the 10mm bolt washer).

I put the HIDs back in & they seem to work fine. Still experiencing occasionally the passenger side one not coming on but if I manually flip the headlight switch off & then on again they both will usually come right back on. It might be the ballast going out. I just looked on eBay. A replacement Zenex 35w ballast is like $27 w/ free shipping. I've had the same kit in since I think 2010. Zenex out of Florida makes SUPER good quality stuff & they always stand behind their products & their warranty. I have both Zenex headlights & fog lights. 6000K for both. They're awesome.

haha, I got an email saying there was a reply to a thread I posted on. I haven't logged into this site in probably 7 years. I got an LED kit for my current car, the ones with the color filters to make them more yellow/white because I hate that blue look they all have. Looks cheap to me, I just want more light with the same white color.

My mechanic at work (I work at a car dealership) recommended getting LED headlights. My HID problem, turns out it wasn't the ballast. I'm almost certain it's the relay after jiggling the relay wires & the lights would then come on & off as I wiggled them. I carefully took apart the relay box & the circuit board on the inside just slides right out for inspection. On the backside of it in the bottom corner, there's a ton of corrosion. I tried using MAF cleaner & a soft brush & cleaned it up best I could. Works okay for now. The driver's side bulb comes on 100% of the time but the passenger one sometimes comes on, sometimes it doesn't. I have to return that new $27 ballast I bought & I already ordered a new $8 relay wiring harness off eBay. My HIDs are 6000K. That color's called diamond white. They look nice. I, also, do not like the blue tinted headlights. I've seen pics of where they JUST start to leave my color range & enter the light blue tint. There are pics around the web of another fellow GTP owner's black GTP with that color range HIDs. He's got the BOOST GETS YOU LAID decals on the front & the same silver upper & lower grille kit that I have. Nice wheels, too. His car looks awesome!! I'm guessing those are 7000K HIDs.
