Headlight Question w/ PICS

Hey guys, do you think I would be able to clean these with some good headlight cleaner and some elbow grease? Or is it simply not worth it, I think the scratches are on the inside due to old age, but not sure.

And another question with standard GP headlight, could I simply get these HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning without any mods?

Thanks a bunch guys.

i bought new headlights 2 years ago when i bought the car and they still look brand new. i love em

you can try taking some 800-1000 grit sandpaper and wetsand the headlights. Then take some car polish to buff out the marks from the sandpaper. It helps if u have a buffer/porter cable, but you can do it by hand too. just takes or elbow grease and time.

by the way, the scratches are most likely on the outside, that's what I noticed when I took mine off my car. You can see the inside still have it's gloss and smoothness to it, not the front though.

yea but if you notice especially in the 3rd pic you can clearly see like maybe a bulb shattered or something b/c there's that ugly looking spot on the right side of the bottom of the headlight.

Maybe just dirt? The inside of mine were pretty dirty too, but nothing was wrong with the lens, and the dirt just wiped right off.

Oh lol, I just stuck mine in the oven for a little bit on 350 (about 3 minutes top)

then the glue became weak and you could take a flat head screw driver and carefully pry them apart. And then you have full access ;)

Give the 3M headlight restoration kit a shot. I was impressed with the results of it. It's about $20.

As far HIDs a lot of guys run them in the stock housings. Just be sure to aim them low enough to not blind anyone.

In order to clean the inside of the headlight, you have to pull them apart. I pulled my brothers lights apart with a heat gun and a screw driver. The other alternative is putting them in the oven like nawarkk did.

hmm...ok guys thanks a lot for the input and Guz how would I go about on aiming the HID's low? And also how much do new headlights run? Thanks guys a bunch seriously sorry for all the ?'s

Wow those $100 lights seem legit. Anyone have any details? I need some myself. Mine are totally effed AND filled with dirt and gunk.

You can fix them up yourself for pennies and minutes of your time.

I started with these:

On the car, I wet sanded 600 for a few minutes and threw on a coat of clear. This was the immediate result:

A few weeks later after I had built my projectors, I wet sanded the clear lacquer off and went 600 grit wet in one direction and 1200 grit wet in the other direction (90° to the first). 4 coats of clear later gets me this:

I would certainly recommend this procedure first and see what happens...

I've been sanding mine for some while... I just can't get them that clear.. Even with a couple coats of clear!
