Headers, Cat-back etc questions

So im looking to make my next upgrade full or partial exhaust work. ive seen the pace-setter systems with powdercoating for about 450 or so and others such as S&S SLP and TOG for a bit more, as well as the different types of cat-back systems. with so many choices its hard for a newbie to know what to choose! i don't necessarily need something to go to the track and run 13s, so im not sure if headers are worth it. just wondering what you all have used and what you like the best. right now im leaning to the pace setters since i can get almost the whole exhaust for as much as the other systems, but im willing to be convinced otherwise because i realize sometimes you get what you pay for when you buy the least expensive

i live in Pennsylvania so whatever i get would have to live up to nasty winters and heavy salt, and as far as money goes... its not something i need to slap on right this second so i can save for a bit :th_scratchhead: ...maybe

i m stuck in the same perdicament...ive decided to go wit a 3" exhaust off the zzp website and the slp headers because ive learned that once ive started modding i wanna keep goin lol ............ how far do u plan on goin???

s&s are the easiest to install and easiest to seal. they also dont hurt the low end as much, but i didnt really notice a difference when i switched from togs to s&s. i like them a lot.

pacesetters if youre cheap, otherwise i vote for s&s.

x3 on the headers, everyone I have talked to has said that the pacesetters are not that good (you get what you pay for). I personally have no experience w/ any type of header. Other forums that I've been on have said TOG's or SLP's. I was checking out the S&S on wbody. Modding is very addictive, I am trying to stop but its taking my life over.

pacesetter here. if i have do all over again pacesetter wouldn't be my choice. my father's gtp have almost the same setup as my monte except his has slp headers. i notice the difference between the 2 headers. like on his when you punch on the gas the car just go. on mine it's kinda hesitate little bit. i don't get that smooth flow like on the gtp. even before i was xp cam, when all i had were pacesetter, cai, and stock exhaust my car felt slower than when it was stock. s&s is on my wish list well, unless i get ic first then i might keep pacesetter.

Would it be unwise to first get a cat-back system, then upgrade exhaust manifolds to headers? Or would that make installing headers more difficult if i already had an aftermarket exhaust installed?

Edit: And yes, its very addicting. I'm not sure how far I'll be going with the mods, but I'm sure I'll just keep going till i can't go anymore - or I'm flat broke

It wouldn't make a difference in the install difficulty.

Another header option is an older set of TOG's. I had an older set and they primaries were 1 5/8". I had great low end with them. I loved them but had to sell them once I went turbo.

Is it true the S&S use the stock DP location?

i have no idea since my car had togs on before the s&s so it was modified from the get go. but it comes out right in line with where my cat was, so id say its a pretty good fit. you have to weld the downpipe to the catback though.

They dp that comes with the headers will take place of the stock dp. You can't use the stock dp with any set of headers, at least none that I know of.
