Header wrap on crossover?

I saw a vid on youtube and noticed a guy had wrapped his exhaust crossover with header wrap. That sounds like a great idea to me since it sits right under the throttle body and seems very cheap lol. Just wanted to see if it was worth takin the 15 minutes to do it or if its just for show.

Gotcha. So then the heat shield ZZP sells for the TB is also kind of a waste right. Forgive my noobness but what does a TB spacer do. Is blocking off the coolant passage in the TB also a bit pointless or is that for something else?

I think the point is that unless you get an intercooler you are pretty much gonna have hot air any way you cut it. The spacer does nothing that you are going to see or feel and the coolant passages do nothing for cooling but do offer the advantage of being able to take the blower off without coolant leaking. If you think about where the air for the intake is coming from it is already hot.

yes, the heat shield is a waste.

the throttle body spacer just blocks the coolant ports and isolates it from the blower. also useless.

If anything.......anything, good comes from wrapping the crossover it would be that it keeps the exhaust gases hot, which in turn keeps exhaust gas velocity up. But I doubt you would even get that out of just wrapping the crossover.

Bio...thoughts?

I don't think anyone thinks you would increase power by wrapping headers. About the only thing I know its good for is retaining the heat within the exhaust pipe. Which may help with underhood temps.

Its not gonna help the TB with incoming air due to the residence time of the air passing thru the TB. Like Bio said, its not there long enough to increase by any significant amount.

Wrapping also keeps heat in the metal that your pipe is made of causing it to degrade faster. I did a lot of reading on this issue before I put my headers in and decided against any wrap.

the only reason wrapped headers are good is for exhaust systems that rapidly increase and decrease in temperature so they dont crack... my Nova is a dragster and i wrapped my headers for that reason alone...

someone correct me if im wrong on that though its just from experience....

wrap isnt going to help anything. it's an old school method that isnt necessary anymore with modern coating processes.

I wrapped my crossover because I had the stuff on-hand to do it --- it dropped the tb temp by about 20 degrees, not that it makes any difference mind you.

my IATs are like 50 over ambient right now. I was thinking about wrapping just the crossover to try and keep the radiant heat from roasting my throttle body where my IAT sensor resides. Has anyone done this with good results?

it makes no difference unless you have an amazing true cold air intake and an intercooler. the supercharger is going to heat the air up any.
