header question

Im starting to save for a set of headers and i had a question for some people that ether own or have some good details on either of these....... Im looking at both the ZZP stainless headers with 3 inch catted downpipe and the wbodystore stainless headers with same options. The zzp after the cat is $900 and the wbodystore is $690... other then a BIG price difference what is the difference??

The biggest difference is the amount of money you fork out. If you want a good set that won't break the bank look for SSAutoChrome.com or Speed Daddy headers on Ebay. They will set you back about $225 many including myself love them. Great cheap headers. The common issue is the band clamps that come with them aren't the greatest, consider buying others. The flex plate is also kind of cheap and some have issues, I got a double walled one from ZZP and had it welded in and its fantastic. Use Copper ATV and seal it up good with factory gaskets and you will be out $300-400 depending on the converter you use.

For comparison of all the headers we've gone through... see the following

No matter the kit, Bills how-to install is EPIC

i dont know much about the speed daddy headers and the other brand you listed.... But if they are cheaply made im guessing they probably wont really last up here in mass with the snow/salt in the winter time. So i have really no problem with shelling out more money for good quality parts. And even though im a technician ill be reading that article... can never get enough short cuts

Metal piping is metal piping, the size of it may very a little but honestly speed daddy's are the best. Cheap and basically the same as the others

My sd headers made it through a MN winter no problem, the stainless finish is completely gone on the downpipe but I dont care.

I'm not even sure SD's are even back in stock yet.

I was simply offering a simple option to save you money for other goodies. You can figure it like this, you can buy 2 full sets of SD headers and a 3.5 Modular Pulley System for the price of SLP Headers to your door, and if you don't mind having them welded in The Other Guys make the BEST headers for our cars but they are the most expensive (see the link I posted on the differences). ZZPs would be best but if there is any problem with them the hassle with customer service will make you pull your hair out and wish you went another route, if they don't bolt in perfectly you'd want to get a shop to fix them.

Its up to you just throwing it out there for some thought.

ive bought all my toys from zzp so far and there customer service is god awful. im just really hesitant on buying cheap stuff because it just never lasts. at least with the zzp or wbodystore you get warrenties

well over half of the people that have headers on their 3800s..i can guarantee you run the SD "cheapo, not gonna last more than a yeaar" headers....and have been running them for multiple years on end.

the fact of the matter is, they are the same style as the slp's....a knockoff, yes, but worth the money for the same gains and longevity? hell yes they are.

Speed daddy's and ssac are both 304, so are Wbodystore's and Zzp's. honestly joe sd or ssac are the best bang for your buck, I can probably bring the jig back from bill's for you to use too. If you really don't want them then I would wait for a set of slp's to pop up for sale, they usually go for about $350 used and are what sd and ssac knock off. No matter which ones you get they can all be a headache to install, luckily your already taking your motor out so that makes the head pretty much go away.

The real advantage of the more expensive headers is the larger primaries and the less pain to deal with and install. They all have their problems though. I have TOG Extremes on my car but I got em for a ridiculously low price. If I was going to buy retail I'd probably buy the pacesetters with the ZZP package that gets rid of the bad/prone to fail parts. ZZP APPARENTLY claims that their headers make 20WHP more on the dyno than competitor headers (on a fully built car). I have no idea how they can claim that as it seems excessive.

I wouldn't get the speed daddies because a few of the parts need to be changed out right away, and its a really stupid design on the sewer pipe (goodbye ground clearance) and because they have smaller primaries. If you're not planning on making max power or going too far with your car and dont mind fabricating a bit im sure they're fine though.

ill do some more looking around first. ya thank god im pulling the motor anyways because the rear manifold is kind of a pain to get to. If i do my cam and stuff first ill probably go to AXP in randolph and have them put my headers in because im lazy. plus they will do it for 50 bucks since we do a lot of there alignments for them for cheap

Ya i saw that on the Speed daddies... thats the part i hate since the roads around here suck and i have plans on getting lowering springs which will make them scrape alittle more. The only reason why i was really looking at the ZZP headers is because ive got alllll my other stuff from them and never had any issues at all. except there awful customer service

One of my best friends does support at ZZP, ill let em know you hate it lol. He does get A LOT of stupid questions per day (hes told me some real doozies) so im sure after awhile it gets to ya.

SD headers even after fixing the cheep flex and redoing the down pipe, you are still in them for less than half the cost of any of the other headers.

oh im sure they get there share of dumb ass questions. The only thing they need work on is the customer service. im not a big fan of the tech support on a call back basis only.

Ive just always gone by the "you get what you pay for" and "you buy cheap stuff you get cheap quality"

SD's are unavailable right now, but SSAC are available direct from their site for $225 shipped. I dont know how you can go wrong with that? I plan on ordering a set tomorrow and shortening them for use in my 3800SC Fiero.
