Header Install...on a Park Ave Ultra!

Who's done this? Top or bottom install? tips on doing so?

I have SD Headers waiting about 2 weeks to go on.

I know i have a LOT of AC/Coolant related lines directly behind the motor that run into the firewall. I'm not sure if they exist in such a location on the GTP/Regal/etc. At least the coolant (for the heater core) appear to be easily removable but the AC one is sketchy. there's also the engine bracket which seems easy enough to remove.

Option B is removing the 4 rear cradle bolts and letting it down a couple inches or whatever to install from underneath. I've NEVER done this before so im skeptical at best. Prefer feedback if anyone had gone that route and the steps it took/what you did.

Since the TB/intake has to come off I also have a ported blower case i plan to do at the same time. Would it be beneficial to remove everything for the blower swap first, then while blower is off install headers, then finish blower? would i gain any room by doing it in that order?
 


Not sure where B town is.. but if you are on the east side of the state and want a hand, stop on over.

As for install.
Jack and support the car.
Pull off the crossover at both ends.
Remove front manfold (might be a 13mm or 15mm holding that shield on the passenger end of the motor under the ...or just above the idler pulley)
Reach down or get under with an extension and swivel and pull the downpipe and rear manifold out.
Wiggle rear manifold out the bottom.
Wiggle new rear manifold in from the bottom.
Bolt up
Slide clamps and crossover in
Start front manifold and wiggle/tap (rubber mallet) on crossover to seat evertyhing.
Clamp and go drive.

There's no need to pull the TB, air tube or airbox. It's that easy and that large of a car that you'll have an easy time. No need to drop the cradle in most non-W body cases.

no need to drop the cradle? this would make me happy in the pants. there is quite a bit of room underneath the park ave but i've never done FWD headers before so i thought i'd post up and see what the deal is with this chassis since the W-body walkthrough makes me sorta cringe.
 
I can't guarantee anything. It's not like you posted your year :th_angry-teeth:.

On the 97 Bonne though, I lifted the new rear header into place, reached wayyyy up and threaded the bolts in by hand. There's that much room. On an 00 Bonne we wiggled the manifold and it went in.

it's nice to know you didn't have to drop anything. Technically although closely related the Bonne/Park Ave are 2 different chassis but most parts interchange. I'm hoping im ok.
 
Well considering we are using w body parts..lol

OH.. Get a W body transmission dipstick tube. Otherwise you aren't going to enjoy that install at all.
 


If you hit a JY with 2 feet of extension and a universal 10mm socket..you'll have one for cheap.

The difference is huge and not worth trying to bend your own IMO.
 


I have an issue.

my stock stick is toast.

I bought a stick from a local yard that said it was from "97+ W body"...

yeah. did not fit. it still hit the dipstick installing the rear header from underneath. i cannot get the header pushed far enough to the drivers side to get on the studs.

I tried bending this tube. bracket broke off. 2 pinholes in the tube, 4 kinks, and it's all sorts of screwed up.

I CANNOT afford ANYMORE downtime. I NEED this to work.

I need a prebent dipstick that WILL clear Speed Daddy/SLP/SSAC headers. It was said the 97+ will work from Wbody but anyone have a pic? Does it look like the one at INTENSE? will that one clear?

Look where it bolts to the trans. Is the tab rectangular in shape or is it more of a triangle?

Rectangle is an H/G/C body tube, triangle is W body. Hold the tubes side by side, post up some pics for us. We are blind at the moment.
 
It was rectangular.

I KNEW somehow they'd find a way to mess that up. i gave specific instructions for 97+ GP, Impala, Monte ONLY. they pulled it from a random 3800 powered car. great.

It's so mangled it can't be returned so i'm going to have to suck it up as a 10 dollar loss PLUS a day from work. I will call tomorrow and see specifically if they have any 97+ W body cars in the inventory. I know they should but it is not a u pick it yard...all one ones around here are private.
 


I'd upload some for you though you definitely answered my question. I'm gonna try again today at the yard and if not i will need to order one from a dealer/intense with next day shipping.
 
both of them are twapped beyond use/recognition. From what i can tell based on the pic at INTENSE is the bottom has a steeper bend to allow it to clear to the right of the crossover (as viewed from front of car) and as you stated the hold down bracket is triangular. i will look for these cues.
