Head studs and compatibility

So, I have a summit racing credit card and want to get head studs from summit racing. I found these there and think they will do, given the description, but it doesn't specify the series 2, just that "
Notes:
Fits Grand National and T-type cars only.". The only issue is four of the studs are oddballs, that is, it isn't two sets of 8 studs like the kit that ZZP sells. Link: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-123-4003. I have no dimensions to compare to either, so it's a bit tricky.

Can anyone confirm if this would work on our blocks or not? This really should be posted in the L36 subsection, but I can't imagine there is variance in that regard. Also, if they do not work, has anyone the dimensions of the head studs so I can just individually pick them out from Summit? Thanks!
 


the type t engine is not the same.....keep looking.

if you never plan to take the heads off, stock head bolts are like 18 bucks.
 
Yeah, I have the front head off now so I was figuring I'd just get it done now. I don't think the gasket sealed correctly when I put it on, though I did the correct sequence and torque spec. Not sure if it was because of a boost problem or what, but I got 120psi between 1 and 3, so I figured there was leakage between those two. Fortunately no cracks or chips on the pistons.
 
could be a bad valve.

as long as the heads off, its easy to take the springs off and check the valves out good, then lap them if they look bad. or take em to a shop to be looked over and reconditioned if need be.

i got that engine from kyle who got it from a junk yard, but slapped on those heads cause they were rebuilt from his last engine that spun a bearing iirc.

the block is in my car and running like a top.
 
Yeah I originally bought them because I wanted to do a port job and needed a set. School was so damn busy last semester though, they've just sat in their boxes. I was doing a pull in my car at 9 psi and something went POP. I was terrified it was catastrophic
 
Yeah. It's an 02 GT with the Z3 kit and E85. I wanted to put those ones on my car and port the ones that were on there, just so I could get a feel for how it's done and how much material comes off at what speed, etc. Not even really for performance gains, just for fun
 


if you look inside the ports you can see just how rough it is, any smoothing will be a gain really.

this is just the die grinder, not polished yet. once polished its even smoother and more shinny.

pic of both. one done, one not. i put about 8 hours per head on just port and polishing, another hour or so lapping all the valves.

Also Scotty, Do you have any suggestions for what die grinder and chuck to use? And do you just use a smoother grinder for the polishing portion? Also I take it, being these are cast iron, using a dremel is out of the question if I want to keep my sanity haha
 
i used a HF air grinder, 20 bucks.

then i searched high and low for the best price on some 1/4 inch shaft carbide dual cutting bits. they are not cheap, and you need one thats 6 inches long at least. the intake runners are deep.

kit like this would work ok, but you still need a longer cone shaped one for inside the intake runner. this is a rathe cheap set of bits too. take a look around http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-NEW-1-4-2...3-SA-3-G108-/331748256068?hash=item4d3dbca944


for polishing i used the HF cone sanding kit. http://www.harborfreight.com/sanding-cone-set-52-pc-62394.html i ended up using a box and a 1/2 of the sanding cones and drums, comes with 80 and 120 grit, so your doing it two times.
 


oh, i used a variable speed electric drill for the polishing. the air grind just tears up the sanding cones like way to fast, and its also f-ing loud as hell. i wore ear muffs during the die grinder work. you'll also want to wear at least a dust mask. you'll be tasting iron for sure lol
