I'm new here but I'm having some issues with my 2002 Grand Prix SE. I replaced the ignition switch due to the blower only working on setting 5. That solved the blower problem but now I have 2 other problems the first is that the car will start but then will turn of after about 5 seconds. Right after I finished I drove around with no issues so I parked it last night and this morning I went to troubleshoot the second issue and it kept turning off. Now to the second issue, its with the turn signals. One thing that I have noticed was the the hazard lights switch was not working properly it would get stuck but the turn signals were working with no problems until I changed out the ignition switch. I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Update:
I am not seeing a security light so I don't think it has to do with the passkey system and I hooked up a code reader and am not getting any codes.

Its weird that the ignition switch fixed that problem because the symptoms u mentioned with ur blower usually is fixed by the blower motor resistor. I'm not that knowledgeable with the ignition switch and what not but when I cut a spare key for my car and it didn't have the chip it did what ur car is doing. But if ur still having the starting issue u would try disconnecting ur battery and then hooking it up to see what happens. My buddy ran into the issue with his 02 gtp after trying to program a keyless fob and whe he did the battery thing, it worked. As far as hazard lights go, check ur fuse is the only thing I can think of. I hate electrical stuff on cars lol

Tried disconnecting the battery but did not fix the problem. A person from another forum mentioned that it maybe that the throttle body might need cleaning because the battery was disconnected during the ignition switch replacement. Anyone else agree with that?

Considering your 2002 has the old fashion cable connected to the throttle body, I’d have to go with no.

That’s said, not cleaning the throttle body (TB) will eventual cause problems. Many people have beat their heads against the wall replacing items only to eventually discover is was simply a dirty TB. It’s a five minute easy to do maintenance item that needs to be done regardless, so why not just do it.

And if cleaning your TB doesn’t fix your problem, I’d look at the MAF sensor next.:th_winking:

I'll try cleaning the TB saw a video online and seems simple enough. Taking the tube off will be the hardest but still not to bad. If it was the passkey system the security light would turn on, right?
