I'll keep this short and simple, I need an alternator that puts out more amperage, 160A might be fine, but for the love of god I CAN'T find a site that specifically denotes it will fit my car. I have an 05 GT, already did the Big 3 and plan on adding another amp, but with my existing setup I'm still getting noticeable dimming at max volume.

But they seem kind of sketchy. I don't want to buy one and have it die on me a month later. Anyone have any links?

I live in NEPA so even if there's a shop around my area anyone knows about, that would be helpful as well.
 


Knu is a good brand. So what is it that you're doing that our world SPL competitor isn't? I'm pretty certain he's run a true 4kilowatts burp using the stock alternator just fine. I'm not trying to be "that guy" but I'm hoping we can save you a few bucks too
 
F&%*, I just typed a fricken paragraph and my computer BSOD'd on me >:(

Basically I typed, I have double runs of 2 AWG for the big 3, crimped and soldered, all clean metal, the ground for the engine I skipped and went straight from the alternator casing to the chassis. It helped but my lights still dim from a 900 watt rms Kenwood amp, maybe the 8405, but not sure on the model. Is it inefficient?

Maybe my stock alternator is just dying, but I can't think of anything else to try at this point except put in a bigger one.

I checked out both of those sites too, mechman only had a 270A (way more than I need) for like $400, and iraggi doesn't have any alternators for Pontiac cars, just trucks, vans, and suv's.

You might be clipping your signal. Also, surface area is a big deal. If you aren't making good contact between the wire and the ground point then all that soldering won't help. Verify that the amp itself has a good grounding point too.

Sometimes, trying to draw too much through a narrow point(bad connection) can also cause a voltage drop and dimming lights. Positive wires need good connections too. It's a pain in the butt but I've seen guys hit 150 decibels on stock alternators without problems
 
All my wiring is from Knu based on audio buddy recommendations. While I'm not running a billion watts. I am pushing a single 5 channel amp and it'll make my ears bleed. Never dims a light, never an issue. Knu for the wiring, Boston for the rest.

I've actually noticed my lights randomly dimming when i first turn on my car/ switch from drive to reverse and odd things like that as well, I kind of think that my stock alt itself is going bad...

Plus I got my GP used at 60,000 as a rental car, so I'm not sure what kind of abuse it's taken

Figured out today my AC no longer works, not sure if it's low fluid or what, butthis is getting irritating
 
I can't get rid of my 200A alternator. It was on a 1991 Olds 88, series 1 3800 engine. Only one offer of $80 in the past few years of trying to sell it and that just is not enough for a item that I paid $440 for.
