H.O. Alternator dims more than stock

okay i got my stereo in and my mechman 270amp alt, the problem im having is im getting considerable dimming even while driving my amp is only rated for 2600 watt rms so the alt is more then enough.

i know it has a 10% overdrive pulley could this cause a issue with the belt being too loose and slipping under a load?
 


grounds grounds grounds. You have terrible grounds. If you had decent grounds to begin with you would have NEVER had to "upgrade" since you have nothing that uses that extra amperage.
 
If the belt were slipping I’d imagine you would notice other components slipping first. Think about it, by having one under sized pulley potentially loosens the whole system. And sure a smaller pulley decreases the wrap on the alternator by a very small amount, but tons of people have made this change without issues. The belt tensioner is normally more the capable of handling one pulley change. I certainly hope you checked out the belt and tensioner condition as the HO alternator was installed.

I would probably start by checking all your big electrical connections, and break out the old multi-meter checking for voltage drops. The fender well ground on all GPs are a POS, it is always a good place to start. Next I’d be looking at a nice battery. I’d aim for about 800CCA. And of course I have made the assumption you are running proper wire sizes to support the audio equipment.

FYI...there's a guy on GPONA who has 4 runs of 0awg for his SPL setup on a stock alternator. He runs about 2.5kw I believe for his SPL setup running sine waves(WAY harder on electrical than music). He took that to world finals in his category. So it comes down to wire crimps and grounds imo.
 
I Have upgraded both the engine ground and the chassis ground all with 1/0 all ring terminals soldered.

i agree with you to an extent about the slipping but the belt is a gatorback that was on it when i bought it a few months ago and it looks prestine. to me i think the wrong size belt was put on in the first place as the tensioner was nearly bottomed out with the stock alt on.

obviously i cant hear i belt slip when playing music but i can get the lights to dim by revving it up so im leaning towards needed a smaller belt
 
You could have an issue with the belt slipping but what about your RPM's? When I had problems with my EGR, lights didn't dim until RPM's started dipping below ~750. Maybe that'll point you in the right direction.

Also, good deal with the solder but my next question will be about surface area. How much contact are they actually making with the ground locations?
