GXP Sand Car project

How many points of contact does the trans and engine have on the lower side of the car? Not including the dog bones on top... Will it be the same as the S/C 3800 and the 4t65e?

So, the only contact points are on the trans except for the dog bones up top. Am I understanding that right? The only reason I'm asking is I can get an S/C 3800 with trans, PCM and harness for a few hundred bucks. Came out of a '00 Regal GS. Was going to use it as mock up for an engine mount. I will not use it if anything is different. For obvious reasons...

I will need to copy the set up on the K-member for the mounts in the sand car. Or, do the V8 cars even have a K-member? Sorry but, I have not looked under a GXP...

Not sure if I asked but, does the GXP and GTP have the same trans? If so, I'm going to build a trans for a spare... It's coming from a '00 Regal GS...

w bodys have a sub frame up front that the engine and tranny mounts are bolted to. the v8 have different mount locations, but still use the sub frame.

They use the same gear ratio but the GXP trans does have a different case, the valve body and electronics are going to specific to the 2004+ transmissions. I believe people have used the regular gtp's cases but the other odds and ends would have to be bought to make it work.

Ok. I'll end up going with 369 gear ratio sprockets and chain. Needing the extra torque to help in the sand

I had 3.69's in mine; loved them.

If you talk to Dave, make sure you get the correct tables for the gearing. Mucho importantetete.

Do you notice a diffference with the 3:69's?

Sold the car; however the built trans and the 3.69's was hands down the best money I put into that car. The drawn out stock gearing kills the LS4, and the 3.69's really woke it up. Loved them. Only lost an mpg or two as well @ cruising speeds.

Along with a tune and exhaust, the car made damn near 300 horse to the tire...which is apparently pretty stout for a stock intake mani/exhaust mani car...with a totally stock valvetrain too.

Sounds good. Hopefully the trans will be ok with pushing less than half the weight off a car. However, with 31" paddle tires, the 3:69's will help

you planning on a built tranny? cause 31's will kill a stock one. you might want the lower gears for them tires too. all reference here is with street tires.

The vehicle is half the weight, the tire size isn't as big of the deal.

The sand cars don't have the mass to push around so the minor upgrade in tire size still isn't a ton of stress added to the drivetrain.

minor upgrade???? OK. its a 5 inch taller tire much wider, and spinning all the time with paddles right?????? cause whos ever seen a sand rail not spinning the tires wot all the time. normal driving around even on the sand is not the norm from what i see on vids of these guys tearing it up.

Send is a far more elastic and ductile medium to move around vs. Concrete or asphalt.
With sand you're throwing the weight of sand rearward to accelerate the weight of the car forwards. Far far less chance of shock loading and damaging stuff.
