GTX Rim Info..

GTP89

Ok guys i don't know if there is a thread on this already but i figured i would throw some info i have found out on these rims since many people crave to have them. It may be minimal but could help open new doors to your searching i haven't seen or read anywhere about these rims having a brand.

So to start off my original GTX 17's pictured here don't mind the chrome peal normal on these rims.

Stamping on the inside of the rim on one of the spokes.

Stamping up front.

So up there are the original gtx rims that came on my original GP SLP GTX.

Now on to some rims i found on a pontiac at the junk yard this week.

The brand behind the spoke.

Offset

Made In Japan

16x7JJ

Stamp up front

Picture of the actual rims i found at the local JY.

For those that are on the FB GP pages i posted these a while ago, some said they are some said they aren't gtx rims so that got me wondering and wanting to do more research on these. They are 16's not 17's that the gp have. some said that they also came with 16's i have no proof of that just what i have been told from certain people on the groups. Now i went back to the jy to get them at 50% off with a friend, found them and was ready to take them, till he suggested i mount them on a gp there to see how they look. To my surprise they did not fit. I figured they would since they were on a grand am but a 96 so the bolt patter is smaller, so i left them there.

My main purpose of doing this is to show people they have a brand it isn't a GM rim that they technically made as far as i am concerned, the brand obviously being pictured is KOSEI company located in Japan. As far as i know they don't sell them any more but might help others find them by expanding there searches by the actual brand of it not by gtx rims. al thought they were 16's and did not fit they are exactly the same, same marks and stamps all over the rims as my original 17's. I have never heard of anyone giving info on these rims or saying they have a brand so i figured why not give a little help and i hope it does for those looking.

If you guys see any wrong info or would like to add more, just pm me so i can edit the post.

hm, kosei makes the gtx wheels. cool.

16x7 +50mm are poop specs, though. i'd rather run the stock wheels.

This is interesting and good to know thanks. I have some 17" GTX rims too but haven't gotten around to using them so see the info is good. I'm really surprised those other rims didn't fit they look like GTX rims and seem to have the right stamps.

It is practically the same rim just bolt patterns slightly smaller for a older gp 96. But exactly the same rim. Same manufacturer made it.

the older GP has the same bolt pattern, 5x115.

the wheels are GTX wheels, they are just the 16" version of them. they made both 16" and 17" 6 spoke wheels.

If the 16s were on a 96 grand am like you said it looks like those cars have a bolt pattern of 5x100 which explains why they didn't fit on a GP. Did GM put GTX wheels on grand ams at any point?

Who knows possibly I mean they were on a grand am. But I am sure someone bought that style rim which they liked for the grand am bolt pattern since at that time the gtx wasn't for sale yet.

So since I got a set of the 16" GTX wheels off a legit GTX for $50 is that a good find?

Yes it is. I take it you are the one posting up the black ones. At the end of the day what I ask myself is what makes the gtx rim the fact that they came on a gtx or the style. To me it's the style because that rim wasn't specific to just GTX only

If not the GTX only then what else did they come on with the same bolt pattern and offset and size and width? That's the magical question that could widen the search option..........

Yea Jerry that was me that posted the black ones on facebook.
And who knows. I've never seen them on anything else

As far as I am concerned it was just like any aftermarket rim that you can purchase for any car in the market. Just gm decided they liked that style for the gtx production car. Pretty sure they called the company up and said hey we need these versions in this bolt pattern and in Chrome.
