GTP vs. RX8

Just a short story.. Nothing fancy. A guy I work with just bought a 2004 RX8 and we decided to line them up coming home from work tonight. I'll get a video next time but I pulled about a car length on him in the end. I'm surprised at how slow those things are? We went from a dig and I let off around 100. Does this sound right?

Yes, it was about a car. And i'm not claiming my GTP is fast, I just assumed an RX8 would be much quicker than an old pontiac.

Don't they get ****ty mpg. I knew a guy that had one stock and said he was lucky to get 14mpg. That's terrible for such a small car.

Seems like he told me he gets like 18.. Either way yeah its awful for such a small car. They sound like crap too.

RX's were built to be canyon carvers, not drag racers. Go race him through some curves and he will annihilate you.

lol this is hysterical.

My woman's Regal was bent over by a poorly tuned 3.5" header car...and it totally destroyed a manual trans RX8 with at LEAST exhaust on it.

Also...yeah...1.3 liters of fury.

Most make on average 170~ RWHP...and barely 120 WTQ.

It's a small RWD car, I fully expect it to kill my GTP when the road gets twisty. Thats why we raced in a straight line lol. I figured it would be closer to 200 whp and i'm sure its a bit lighter than my car, thats why I was a bit shocked at the outcome. I knew they had no torque though, small engines that rev to the sky never really have torque.

Auto or stick. I got to go to a Mazda track day when those were still being produced. I seem to recall the auto's were detuned significantly. Neither motor made any power until they were wound out in the RPM range. I remember running around the track. From a dead start you were just waiting for it to hit powerband in 1st gear and then you needed to keep the revs up or it was annoyingly slow. I remember thinking a Civic would take one from a dig because they were so lame off the line.

The auto's were...and they were MUCH slower...due to 1500~ RPM or less shift points...which seemed pretty ignorant since the only way the RX8 can make power is to rev the piss out of it.
