GTP sputtering, misfireing under load

So yesterday on my way to work my car like hick up'd so to speak when I got on it merging on the freeway, then was fine. Now today I was just cruisin around witht a friend and it started missing under load and boost like anything more then say 80% throttle, and is doing in every time now. Whats goin on here? Plug wires are tight on the coils, and on the plugs seem to be tight too. Mods are in sig, car only has 60K on it. It's a 99.

ummm whats it mean when 2 of the coil packs have rust all over one of the things the plug wire attaches too?

not sure what could be going on here, but to start if you have a multimeter, check the resistance of the plug wires, and the resistance from one post to the other on the 3 coils and compare them (as in one coil at a time, both posts on that same coil). If you get wacky numbers between coils, and/or wires, you prob. need to start replacing parts. Prob. ought to change the wires out unless there a good brand, and new within the last half year or so just to rule that out.

I'd say start cheap first...if need be I have a set of coils you can buy from me off of my car and they have 40K on them. I'd do plugs and wires...if that doesn't fix it then coils. You can try sanding down the rust on that coil pack though...worked for a few people around here...

Coils a known culprit on these cars? I was eonderin how the hell they got rust on them. So other ppl had this problem and it was the coils?? What are urs off of and how much just incase?

i'n not to sure about coils being an common culprit, but i have rust on my coils no clue how it got there but just sanded them down and haven't had any problems since.. you may want to give that a try first and then move on from there

Yeah thats what im gonna do....runs aint a very good conductor lol What should I usr that wont damage the tip?

you shouldn't damage the tips but i just used some sand paper i forget what grit tho.. i want to say 600 or 800, but also just as a precaution i disconnected the harness that plugs into the coils and then was sure to wipe all the shavings off

Thanks! Ya know what else is wierd is the 2 that are like that, the plug wire wont "click" when you put it on, just pulls right off no matter how much you push on it putting it on. Also seems like it dont do it until the cars been running a while, I was testing it today after work and the first few times I got on it it was completly fine, then latr after about 5 more miles it started doin it again. Temp guage was at operating temp before I ever got into it the first time. Why would this be??

If the plug wire won't click then it is the plug wire...not the coil...but I'd get new wires IMO...and sand down all the rusted coils.

For the temp...is it hotter outside? Warmer it gets...higher the temp gauge goes...

Temp outside dosnt seem to have any effect. Whats a good brand of wires for these cars I can get at a local parts store, dont have time to wait to get some special stuff shipped form somewhere lol I wanna get this resolved this weekend.

Just get another set of stock wires and if you have time rotate them out and see if you can narrow down the problem.

Also what plugs are you using and gap?

I've heard good things about the NAPA wires. Cost me around 40 bucks and got a lifetime warranty. The thing is that they only come in blue so....

Went and got some auto zone wires, duralast i think they were, lifetime warranty. chaqnged out the front 3 along with replaced 3 front plugs with some stock range ngk copper core ones. also took some sand paper to the coil posts and got them looking alot better. Seems to have fixed the issue. I'll be putting the other wires on and changing the rear plugs next month when I order my pulley and pcm. Thanks for the help everybody.

hey guys and gals, 25 male from mass here. single dad 4 kids lol. ok heres my problem. I just got a 2000 grand pix gt. really nice looking car but thinking it wasn't maintained vary well. but its all i could get. 500 bucks.. so im to fix it myself. i dont mind though. i just have to pick and chose where to start with money.. ok so the car ran great for the first few days... then just now im down the DMV getting the reg.. when all of a sudden it starts to sputter at low rpms. when i start to go , it smooths out. i did how ever notice like a slight wining noise when i give it gas.. so i took it down to the ol' auto zone. engine light was on since i bout it a week ago.. i was told evap leak when i bought it. so they plug it in and give these code. : p0442( evap) p0301(misfire in #1) and p0341 (canshaft sensor) so being as i can only do one at a time, and at least need the car to run like it was a week ago. where do you think i could start to do so.
thank you for any responses :)

Personnaly, I would start w/ the misfire as it's the easiest. Probably just needs a new set of Autolite copper plugs (606's) and wires. You can get those for about $60 or so total for both. Maybe cheaper if you don't get the lifetime wires. Heck, I've got my old NGK plugs here if you really need some. Cleaned and regapped they would get you by.

The cam sensor code would be next on my list. May also want to just check out the wire harness connection to it and see if it's clean and tight. If not, clean it up and see if the code stays gone.

The whining noise could be one of the 4 kids, lol... Anyway, I'd check the power steering fluid level. It's in a stupid spot that you cannot see. It's under the alternator. Just reach down between the firewall and alt and you should be able to unscrew it and check the level. You will need a long funnel to fill as needed. The other thing that can cause a whine is the trans. Check the fluid level while it is fully hot, in park and idling. If low add slowly until its full. Use Dex III. Worst case drop the pan and change the filter and fluid, about 7 quarts.

I'd start a new if you still have issues since it will get more visability, and welcome to the site!

Thank you so much for the replie. I've been trying to find a way to start a new thread but its taking a little time to adjust to this. Maybe the app will help...
So today after work I'm going to try plugs, wires, and the sensor...
A new symptom came up go to work this am.. Its about a 20 min drive, as I had to stop and pull over because the car just went sput then lost power and died... Pull ove turn the key, started right up. Did this 3 times in the trip... No other signs just that ??
