GTP actually stands for...?

I have heard it stands for Gran Tourismo Prototipo and Grand Touring Performance.

Also that it was supposed to be G(MB)TP = Grand (Muffler Bearing) Touring Performance, but they changes it to GTP to make the badge smaller.


Which of the above [if any] are true?
 


ive always wondered myself its obvious GT is grand touring but the P hmmm maybe it is prototype... kelly blue book says that GTP's only make up 9% of GP's made that year

GTP does stand for Grand Touring Prototype...GM made the GTP as the original concept car...then they said...hmmm...GTP, not bad...and as far as I know the name stuck:th_thumb-up:

Probably means nothing. Like LTZ or something. Just some letters they threw together to set it off from another trim level.
