GTO scoop

I think all the scooped fiberglass hoods are a joke. This is the scoop section (in blue) of a 1966 GTO hood, laying on my wrecked 99 GP. I have another black GTP just like it now, and I have this scoop piece. I can cut and weld and paint and buff and all that, so ... should I make this happen? I think it would be wicked, especially if I build an intake plenum under it. Glance and comment please, because if this is an ugly idea I ain't gonna waste time on it. Or at least maybe I'll get a JY hood to try it out on. Wanted to run it past all you GP enthusiasts and see what you think. If its been done before, please show me.

It won't stick up like this once I cut my hood.

In my opinion scoops on these cars look better going into the hood instead of sticking out. I guess that's more of a vent than a scoop, but thats just my opinion. Ive been wanting to try photoshopping different hoods on grand prix's just to see how they look.

Just throwing these ideas out there. What if you moved the scoop more towards the front? Almost over the grills but like 6-12" back? Oooor turn it around 180 degrees and stick it somewhere in the middle. It'd be more of a vent that way but the lines of the scoop would follow the lines of the hood. Won't look like they're fighting eachother that way.

Well, hey at least the last four opinions had backbone. But the first four convinced me to abort the idea. In the future I will disregard all opinions on visual matters. The only one that counts is mine, for my car. None of you would like any of what I want to do, but thanks to redline, jacoby, somedude, and slick for briefly explaining your disapproval!

there was a guy on here that put a mopar style scoup(70's roadrunner I think) and i thought it would look stupid. Turned out really well and i kinda liked it after it was done. My point is, do what you want.

If you like it, do it. Not everyone will have the same tastes as you. If they don't like it they don't have to look at it. The problem is your asking a lot of "experts" on the internet where "mob mentality" rules. Don't be a conformist do your own thing....

It doesn't flow with the hood... like others have said if they were recessed vents then ya maybe... or if it was a cowl hood then ya maybe.. but it just doesn't look right on a roundish car plus the vents on it are way smaller then your front grills so that also throws it off for me imo.. If it were a squarish car like the old muscles then yes it will look good lol... just my .02

I'll expand on my "noooooooooooooo"

It doesn't flow at all. If I saw that on a Grand Prix, or any modern car I'd point and laugh and shake my head.

Taste is relative, but acceptance can be a factor.

Thx for expanding, Stealthee. And well put. If somebody asked my opinion and its "laugh and point" on my end, thats the time the person needs to hear the input. Duly noted, and as I said the abort button has been mashed. I'd hate to do all that work towards an epic fail. This forum is a new environment for me but I hope to figure out how to ask questions right.

Alix0r- I haven't even tried to visualize it on my 69 GP, because I think its gonna be WAY out of proportion for that. I reckon the scoop would be a cool lid for a BBQ, who knows?

I'd fix the damage over the headlight first...LOL...JK.

Just doesn't work for me...I think the notes about the lines above might change that, but it has to flow, and that one doesn't.
