GTO Reliability?

I test drove a 2006 6.0 GTO the other day and loved the power. I Chirped the wheels going into 2nd and 3rd gear. My big question is, how reliable are they? I have a 2000 GP GT and its a piece of crap even though I still love it and take very good care of it. So I'm wondering if GTOs are built better then GPs? If they are built well then its very tempting to get one. Any knowledge or experience about GTOs???

I understand that all cars will have their problems, but I'm wondering if they are built well overall. I've noticed the difference between a crappy built car like the GPs cuz I've been repairing it for the last 2 years that I've had it and it only has about 117,000 miles, and a nice built vehicle like my dad's 2001 GMC Yukon which has 125,000 miles and hasnt gone through much work except for the usual maintenance. So I want to know where the GTO lands?

I have a GTO for sell in this forum. I have own my GTO since 2006 and bought it when it had 1,800 miles and it just turned 3,050 miles as of today. I know alot about these car and they are great cars if you take care of them just like any car. My GTO fit and finish is great and still looks and smells new. The only issue with these GTO is finding one that has not been beat up, raced, and dynoed. Like any car when you play you'll pay. Cars are not built to be raced! Like it was stated above all cars have some issues.

That motor and tranny have only been around since like 98-99 and are in countless cars, trucks, vans.

Its still going to have issues like any car.
they have? i thought the ls2 came out in 2005? i know the 6 speeds been around a while tho...
i SHOULD have gotten that GTO!! i would get it if i were you!

if you take care of it, it will stay nice. it has a LS motor ive seen them go 300k+ miles when theyre taken care of.

they do have cheap esque interior. seats are comfy as hell, parts are kinda pricey if you go with genuine parts, but aftermarket has lots of nice options for the car.

The LS architecture. It's almost identical from engine to engine whether it's an LS1, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS6, LS7, LS9, LSA, LQ4, LQ9, LM7. Size ranged from 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L. And I'm still missing a few, that's just off the top of my head.

There's interchangable parts from every single engine I just mentioned.

from what i hear LS1 motor is better then the LS2 motor as far as reliability, but GTO's are known to have bad crankshafts and ignition starters, but id say if u got a oppurtunity to buy one i say get one, there sick as sh1t

LOL at the cheap interior comment, you have to be fuking kidding. Designed off the holden monaro, basically all pontiac did was throw pontiac badges on it. These ls2's have been known to go 175k and up with just oil changes and basic maintenance. It depends how well the car was cared for by the previous owner. get one you wont regret it. Some of you guys shouldn't talk about what you don't know.

Great car. Will be highly sought after in the future. Bad are drive shaft problems, alternator whine, 5th gear whine, and waterpumps tend to let go around 50k mark. Other than that the LS is bullet proof.

Lol I wasn't fully serious about the cheap interior.. Believe me I like the inside.. The door locks piss me off :p
Not to get off topic but jhp offers a plug and play door lock switch to go right by Tcs. They also have a bluetooth setup as well.

i seem to remember having some problems using a techII to communicate with a GTO, as it's 99.9999% austrailian. might have been a G8 though, as it's also 99.9999% aussie. that GTO needed a gas cap for an evap code. and its the only one i've ever seen in my shop, if that tells you anything
