GT cam on a L36/L67 topswap?

Z34Phoenix

Florida Tuner
Ok im planning out all the mods i want for my engine swap. and wondering if anyone has run a GT cam with the m90?

my reasoning for looking into this is that i want an engine that performs well and fuel efficient before boost and then have even more power when boost kicks in. i will run the BBV on Vac only and set it to close later so i can make the most of the engine's NA low RPM tq. I am used to the 3.73 gearing in my DOHC and my PE doesnt kick in until 35% so unless i am trying to race off the line i can stay out of PE. i would like to have a similar setup when i do the swap. be NA out of PE and out of Boost below 30-35% throttle.

I have heard VS cam sound clips and they all sound like a chain saw to me. not the sound i want. i had considered an XP but, i dont really like that it will kill the longevity of the motor. i heard that life of the engine is reduced considerably with the XP cam. if i can get more life out of another cam i will forgo the extra hp diff

my other option is a set of 1.9 rockers no matter the setup i will have 90# springs. i Like the sound clips of cars with 1.9 rockers much more then the cams i have heard. also i heard they are better on mpg.

So Main question again GT cam on topswap? will it work? is it dangerous?

FYI the planned build is:
L36 block
L67 top swap
-home ported Heads,
-Ported LIM
-home ported blower
-North Star TB
Headers
My current 2.5" full exhaust
160* stat and 103's to start if no KR then will go to 180* and 104's

Valve train:???
90# springs
cam or 1.9 rockers
4t65e 3.29's

DHP PT. Tuning will not be a prob as i have a few starter files and have dont plenty of tuning on both topswaped and l67 engines to know what i need in this dept.

anything in the parts list that i might be missing? besides misc belts fluids and gaskets.

itll be leaps and bounds better than the stock cam, but a cam meant for boost will also run better than stock cam on an n/a motor. why not just run the right cam right away?

Idk why you think the XP is so bad for the motor. Just get a rollmaster timing set and be done. Any valvetrain mods will increase wear.

and power increases means more stress on the same sized bearings.

You can't win if you're making more power unless you go for more cylinders/cubes.

So there goes your whole longevity issue... :D

also the smaller the pulley, the sooner you'll see boost.

Do you have a flow bench? If not, i'd suggest simply a polish on the runners then a good valve job.

Unless of course you have lots of experience with good success.

ive heard good things about guys with the GT cams in a topswapped motor. if you already have the cam then toss it in, why not. you should get some 105 valve springs if you are going to cam. if you dont have a cam and your are going to be buying one then i suggest a supercharger cam. i have an XP and i love it! much much better than my 1.9 setup.

most mods decrease the life of the motor, but mostly because those who mod arent going to be babying the motor. i put my cam in at 175k... and if you are really worried about it then replace your rod bearings, they go first when theres a bottom end issue.
