growling noise

hey guys new to forum and i have a small problem. I have a growling noise coming from the front end . I thought is was a wheel bearing but they seem tight so I investigated a little further and it seems there is alot of play where the drivers side axel goes onto the output shaft. if you pull the axel out the shaft has a lot of play. the noise is steady and increases with vehicle speed . it also does it with the trans in neutral. this leads me to believe that its a bad output shaft bearing ,but I can not find any listing for one any where . the car is a 2002 grand prix gt with 120k I did notice they list them for 99 and older but not for anything newer .any help would be awesome

I would lean more towards a wheel bearing making the noise, its pretty common on these cars and sounds exactly as you are describing it. The output shaft will have a bit of slop to it as will how both axles sit in the trans. It looks kinda iffy but its likely normal as they are by no means tight and true. Check out your tires also, broken belts or bad wear from an alignment can also cause noises in the front.
