I posted this in gen tech talk but i was told i should put it here. that link:
http://www.grandprixforums.net/97-g...-firewall-2-seconds-after-starting-77407.html

basically whats going on is the engine is grinding, ive read flexplate, starter, the abs sensor, the coupler, all kinds of fun stuff. the best description from my gf was her following email:

I went out started it again it stayed on but sounds rickety in the engine kinda like something is clanking more high pitch than a knocking sound, I could smell some gas but not sure if it blew from the exhaust area. There is also a high pitch buzzing sound toward the rear of the car. I looked under didn’t see anything red. Shut it off, waited a few seconds started again it stayed on but still sounded crappy. I gassed it a bit the boost didn’t light up at all. I’m not going to mess with it anymore tonight.

any thoughts? this car is driving me up the damn wall

so update. i changed the sc coupler and it fired up fine ran for a bit then shut off then on again several times, did a test drive all was well. i fired it up again, it wanted to die but i hit the throttle from under the hood and stayed on and worked fine.
could it be a throttle pos sens or fuel filter?

no CEL havent done the TB cleaning yet. no tune up yet. I was gonna dump some fuel stuff in today and then clean the TB as well. also could it be the brand of gas going in? we are trying to just burn shell 91 but should we switch?

start with some maintenance if you dont know when it was last done. aka tune up.

post a vid, just so we know we're not dealing with a blown engine. rod knock or lifter or rocker spring or something like that.

gas wont make it run that badly.

ok so it was all running fine then i decided to be stupid and clean the TB now when i got the TB gasket from autozone i put it on after cleaning off the old one and now i have a coolant leak under the throttlebody. i dont konw what to do. honestly i am fed up with this car and dont want it anymore. could it be the aftermarket gasket? never did this before i took the tb off

take the TB back off, and check that you cleaned all the old gasket off. on both sides, the intake, and the TB. then put it back on. make sure its on there flat, snug all the bolts in a X like pattern, then make em tight. do not over tighten them.

Ya, i realized that after a while and sitting here talking to my brother about it...double gasket is not fun. by the time i realized whats up, its too late.
however, does that explain the check engine light and the engine to rev higher at idle?

it sure could.

OK Took the TB off cleaned the hell out of the residue of the old one. put it back on, fired it up...no leaks. engine was reving high with the check engine light on.... quick thinking i turned it off, unplugged all the connectors that are around the TB and disconnected the neg battery cable...waited about 5 minutes, plugged it all back in, then the neg batt cable. then fired it up. rev is fine....HOWEVER now the shifting point on the car is higher than normal, and the shifting feels perfect...just the engine is higher when it does so i konw it cannot be the tranny...what sensor, on the tb did foul out possibly? i havent checked the codes yet because my brother has the scanner and i cannot see him until early tomorrow morning....
i appreciate all this help.

The Throttle Position Sensor plays a large role in determining shift points, and it's right on the throttle body.

Not too safe for sure, is the CEL on? I saw you said codes so I'd assume you do, if there's a TPS code then yes.

if the pcm reset and the cel went off, the trans needs to relearn how you drive, it can take a day to shift how it used to.

how do you do the PCM reset? the CEL is still there and will be scanned tomorrow morning. i am hoping that the trans learns the shifting points.
i should say this....I did take out the TPS at one point, but put it back in. could that have done anything? it goes in like push-n-turn.
and although i love the performance shift ;) i would just go bat **** crazy all day :)

when you take the battery off for 15 minutes or longer the pcm can reset. being your light is on still it could be the tps is not in right.

thanks. but please define ' in right's how are these supposed to be installed? should I disconnect the battery before installing a new one or 're installing the existing one? I feel that it's almost there
