Grand Prix Potential...

So I'm new to this whole gtp scene, I originally bought my prix just for a daily driver but lately I've been looking at having some fun with it. My question is, what is the potential for these cars?

Given roughly 10-15k in mods what could you make a gtp capable of beating? A friend of mine has an sti and coworker just bought a zr1 and I'd really love to be able to beat down at least one of those if at all possible. I'm open to turbos w/e but it would have to be daily driveable and street legal. This is kind of just for fun at this point but I'd still be interested in the answers.

fastest GP is like 8.5 in the 1/4 and that was by ZZP twin turbos. slicks complete Gutted out. Roll cage, EVERYTHING

IMHO dont start modding it. it will only be a money/pain in your ass

good luck. i hope you are just a stupid good driver. running 10s in a grand prix is not easy, even if you have a retarded amount of money into it.

15k would be fun to build a gp wbody with Not saying it would beat a zr1 but would be a fun build as long as it wasnt outta my bank account

Hmm, well I can't say it's the answer I wanted but the truth is always best. Assuming a turbo set-up(IC, headers, tstat, etc.), and a beefed up tranny, what kinds of vehicles could one theoretically run with?

Sorry for the armchair racing but I'm very intrigued by these cars and what they can (or can't do)

with a big build turbo setup like a T72 or the like, the car run consistent 11's, but youd have a hell of a time keeping transmissions in the car

Going past the 3.4 pulley setup on these cars seems to be too expensive IMO. If I had the 10-15k I would rather buy a LSX based car and start from there.

Again thank you all for the information. Boo to weak trannies. The ole gtp can always be my solid dd while the search continues for the right platform for me.

you can get a built trans for them they get a little pricey but can hold as long as you dont beat on it daily

with a s/cm90 build getting over the 350ish hp mark gets tough turbo builds are easier to get up over 400hp

if your builds good and trans is strong you can get a solid 10.5-11 second car and thats what it can beat aswell 10.5-11 second car is no slouch

I wouldnt want to have to tune a 10 sec car but it would be fun to drive

Also these things are simple to build and rip apart hell just keep a back up trans and engine and your car will never be down for more then 2 days :-)

Interesting Torque...

You're revived my hopes a bit. My first car was a 96 firebird formula so I know the LT/S platform is a rock solid base. The only problem is that where I am there are so many f-bodies I could spit. I'd really dislike being the 1 millionth jackass rolling around in one as well, the same issue negates the ole foxbody as well. Plus let's be frank the gp is a sexy sexy car.

I'd definitely be looking at a turbo set up were I to build up the gp. If I may plague you with a few more Q's:

1. You said built trannies capable of taking a turbo set-up can get pricey, what's pricey here 3-5k or closer to 5 digits?
2. Assuming the car isn't beaten hard on a regular basis would the setup do ok under normal driving?
3. Last but not least, looking at turbo kits I find myself intrigued by the one from cartunig, anyone have any experience/opinions with it?

theres a few members here with turbos and a few that have done a lot of research

As far as transmissions go id talk to Dave Norris at Tripleedgeperformance.com
i have one of his trans not fully built and it cost 1400 plus core and shipping
there are other trans guys out there but dave was great to work with and his prices arent bad

If your just running the track now and then and using it as a dd you will more then likely be fine but then again im only at the 300hp level so i havent pushed boundries yet

Alot of people on here say its a **** platform to build on I say if you like it It does have potential to be a fast dd and sleeper

I had a 96 formula a while back still miss it loved that car but around here its mainly mustangs lol

1. if you buy a $5000 transmission its a good one.

2. yes, easily. the transmission just dont like hard launches, one wheel peels, and really hard shifts. when built correctly they'll take all of that.

3. cartuning sucks in comparison to ZZP's kit, not including the level of customer service you cant get from cartuning.

Thank alot for the third or fourth time! I also just now see that there's a specific turbo forum so sorry for plopping them in here. I'm going to do a bit of homework on the mentioned names/products and consider some options from there.

Bio, yeah I'd probably be hitting the track on a very irregular basis thanks to work, so it's good to know that a well built trans can take the occasional race and hold up well under DD conditions.

Yeah I miss my formula too, a bit too powerful for a stupid 16 y.o. lol, but very fun.

Thanks again.

Will do, I've been interested in learning how to tune for awhile now. Looks like I finally have the motivation I need to get off my ass and do it.

it's not gonna be a good idea to build a 10 sec car out of your dd. I'd say go another platform where you'll get more bang for your buck.
