Grand Prix Down...now what?

Well last week my wife's '06 GP was rear ended by an F-250 and totaled. I've been looking around for an 04+ Grand Prix to replace it but haven't had much luck yet.

Anybody on here know much about the G6's? I've found a few '06 G6's with just under 100k for pretty reasonable. Has anybody had one or know much about the reliability on the 3.5L V6 motor?

Also, here's a couple pic's of the damage. Let me know if there's any issues with the link. The bumper was removed because it was cracked and bent.

My sister has one has around 80k miles on it. She's hasn't had to do any maintenance repairs to the car itself besides the door locks randomly not wanting to work. For instance sometimes all 4 decide to unlock like they're suppose to. Other times just the two front doors will unlock and the backs won't or one of the backs won't unlock. She's replaced them 2x now but seems to still become a issue she just deals with it ATM.

My uncles got one with a little over 100k and the only work he's ever come to me for is maintenance stuff. Spark plugs, wires, oil, brakes, simple stuff like that. I've driven it a few times and for a small car, it's actually pretty nice. The motor's peppy, and gets up and goes, and it's a smooth handling car as well. I'd say if that's what you've decided, go for it, they're definitely a nice little car. The only complaint I have against them, is the interior definitely isn't as room as a GP, but it's a smaller car so you could only expect such a thing.

My mom has an 06 Malibu Ltz with the 3.5l. Bought it with 51k on it and it has ~83k now. She hasn't had any problems so far. Just kept up on maintenance an it still drives great.

The only things I can even think of are the trunk button on the drivers door recently stopped working. As did the light that lets you know the fog lights are on. Fog lights still work tho.

Also the seats are pretty awful. Any drive longer than 45 mins and its quite uncomfortable(at least for me). Even my gp seats are better than those.

i wouldnt say thats totalled. a bumper, trunk from the salvage yard and a sledge hammer and your good to go

Edit:actually after looking at the pics again and looking at the gap from the wheel and fender you can see that the entire ass end is pushed forward :(

Get a g6 with a 6 speed and throw in the 3800 :D

My dad has a 4 door G6 and it's a real nice car. He's had a couple odd problems with it like the shifter cable breaking (which i guess is something that's pretty common) and something with a caliper but other than that been fine. I've driven it quite a bit and it's real smooth and peppy like other people have said.

I drove my sisters for the few months that I was in VA and made me miss driving the GP. For the last year or so I've been driving a Silverado so the change was very nice.

I personally don't like the 3.5.

They tend to leak worse that our cars do. My boss has a 2010 impala with it and roughly 80k on it, already been at the dealer twice for oil leaks, and its leaking again from the rear main. Gets worse mpgs than the 3.8 aswell, though the driver can play a big roll in that.

And the G6's are well known for ball joints going out, and the only fix is to buy the whole control arm, which are stupid $$$.
