Grand Am GT... in the Prius

Driving back home from Philly today through that mess of snow and wind. Was on I-70 just west of Columbus when I passed a red Grand Am GT with ricer tail lights. Didn't think much of it but a few seconds later I heard a great thunking sound and suddenly I'm spinning the hell out. Went across three lanes from 65 MPH to zero, finishing on the hard shoulder. He spun out left and wound up in the median.

You're looking at the total damage to the Prius. The Grand Am is completely toast - he lost the bumper on impact plus whatever the hell happened from his plowing through the snowy median. At the very least he'll need a tow truck to get out plus a new bumper.

The guy was pretty cool after all. He was also coming from Pennsylvania, except he was on his way out to Kansas - evidently he was posted there. His insurance owned up to the accident within an hour and gave me a shop to get an estimate from for a new bumper. Then John Q Law came to take some notes - no ticket for me. When I left, a tow truck was en route, so I hope he figured it out.

Honestly, it's scratched. I might put that money in my pocket.

Or buy car parts :th_biggrin2:

I don't even see a scratch lol I see lots of salt tho, good to know your ok tho. That coulda ended a lot differently .

$1,322.61 for a new bumper, plastic retainers, paint/blending, and labor. His insurance is paying up, they cut me a check Wednesday, and should be here in 7-10 days.

I'm going to buff it out and buy myself a new plastic retainer for $40 when the weather breaks.

The rest is going in my pocket.

Upon closer inspection there is a 10mm bolt that holds the bumper cover to the plastic retainer, and the retainer is snapped at that point. There's a couple plastic nubs that held the quarter panel to the rear bumper too. Repair bill should be under $40 as expected.

All in all not bad how it turned out. I got a pulley for my GP and put $1200 in the bank.
