GPS / Clock not working after battery disconnect

I have a 2006 Grand Prix GXP and replaced the battery (the same issue has been noted in similar year Corvettes - same system) and noticed that my clock was not on as well as the GPS not connecting with the satellite. On the Corvette forum, I found a post that stated :
"The military made a change to the GPS signal on or about 12/13/18. It impacted C6 Corvettes up to the 2010 models for sure. The firmware in the radio will need to be updated one GM has the fix. I opened a ticket with GM and suggest everyone that that this same issue do the same. To avoid the problem you can insert a feature saver into you cigarette lighter when you change the car battery. Otherwise you will not be able to set the time until the software is fixed."

Has anyone else seen this in their system and is there a fix for the problem? I am pretty sure that a feature saver was used when my battery was replaced (all radio channels still there), but the problem still occurred.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Just wanted to follow up with more information that I learned today. There is a GM document, PIT5652E (Document ID: 5355382), that states engineers are aware of the situation if you have the GPS system RPO of U3U, U3Z, URB, US4 or YQ4 (our option was the US4). In speaking with Pontiac Customer Service, they were awful and not worth the time (not much better with Chevrolet Customer Service either). Yeah, I spoke with both. Also, there is no process to escalate the issue, only customer service rep. These reports are reviewed by their supervisor only. I asked how they know if 20,000 owners are having this problem as it affects Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac and Saab potentially and she did not have a clue. What a way to hide issues. Now having no GPS, I guess that I will have to use my cell phone to guide me...…..WAIT! That is against the law in Nevada to use your cell phone while driving.

Hey!

I had the same problem with my 2006 GXP - with the clock not working - after I changed my battery. It was driving me CRAZY. I called Chevy customer service, was on the phone for 30 minutes, and they basically told me to take it to the dealership. I came across this guy on one of the searches I did and he has a software update to fix it!

Pontiac Grand Prix 2005,2006,2007,2008 GM Software to fix a BLANK CLOCK | eBay

I just checked on ebay and it's $14.99 - way better than taking it to the dealership :)

Just wanted to pass on the info to you because I know how frustrated I was with my clock not working :)

Hello...Just installed on my 2007 Z51 Coupe. Clock was still working but I need to disconnect the battery to do some work. Install went well, however my NAV display has a black background much link it previously worked at night. It as still daylight 3PM EST in North Carolina. It is possible that this is the normal setting for NAV's newer than 2007. I have yet to find a way to go back to the brighter screen but may not be possible with this newer level of firmware.
